hmm, don't even know where to begin....

i moved back to the US four years ago to take up my job at UNC. still wondering if i should have stayed put on the other side of the atlantic. don't get me wrong, i love chapel hill/carrboro....i've just lived abroad often and miss europe...a lot!

i love to teach and am excited i'm getting to do more of that these days. this semester it's an MA course on political contestation in europe.

i also love to travel and, thankfully, get to do a lot of it for my job. most recent new adventure was hiking in corsica...can't wait to go back. also just spent the winter break in culebra...beautiful!

genuinely seeing the best in others

usually my smile, my propensity to laugh, and my honesty (to hell with the consequences!)

books: to kill a mockingbird; as i lay dying; walden; the once and future king; all quiet on the western front; one flew over the cockoo's nest; bill bryson and david sedaris also really make me laugh

movies: miss congeniality; the big lebowski; platoon; wag the dog; girl, interrupted; goodbye lenin; the lives of others; almost famous; stand by me; bull durham

shows: homeland; battlestar galactica; west wing; ally mcbeal; buffy the vampire slayer; weeds; friday night lights; MI-5; the daily show; the simpsons

music: bob dylan; tori amos; jonny cash; bebel gilberto; the rolling stones; ben folds; gillian welsh; madonna; james taylor; lucinda williams; willy nelson; janis ian...i guess i like a little of everything but as my list reveals, my favs are in the folk genre....

....and on a related note, i'm an NPR junkie!

food: anything goes....the spicier, the better!
