I am reticent, adroit, and using a thesaurus.

My Self-Summary

I'm intellectual, creative, and silly (once you get past the shy parts), and I value the same. I'm witty and sarcastic (and yes, I know those two aren't always the same thing), but I'm more of a listener than a talker.

I'm a freelance video game translator... So yeah, pretty much a huge dork. I enjoy riding my bike, hiking, going to see live music (particularly rock and jazz) and theater. Traveling is my passion.

What I’m doing with my life

I moved to St. Louis this summer, and I'm sharing an apartment with my best friend. I work from home, set my own hours (usually late at night), and am constantly amazed that people are paying me to do what I love. I'm leaving my future open for now.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Orson Scott Card (Pastwatch, in particular), The Time-Traveler's Wife, Fight Club, Harry Potter series, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Road to Purgatory, anything by Agatha Christie. The Nero Wolfe series by Rex Stout. Christopher Moore. Historical fiction like Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth. On the Japanese side of things: Battle Royale, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu.

Movies: Groundhog Day, Braveheart, Sunshine, Run Lola Run, Big Fish, Casino Royale, There Will Be Blood, MST3K/Any terrible modern movie with RiffTrax, Seven Samurai, Zatoichi, anything by Miyazaki.

TV: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Life on Mars (British version), The Office (both versions), Arrested Development, Freaks & Geeks, Daily Show/Colbert Report, West Wing, 30 Rock, Lost, Survivor (a guilty pleasure).

Music: Cake, Weezer, Ben Folds, They Might be Giants, Postal Service, The Kinks, The Beatles, Modest Mouse, The Go Team, Tegan and Sara, The Weepies. Anything jazz. When I'm writing, I like music without vocals: Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Mum, Thomas Newman. As for Japanese music: Ulfuls, Capsule, Halcali.

Food: Thai, Sushi, and Gino's East in Chicago are some of my favorites, but I'm not picky. My roommate and I are working on cooking more -- so far mostly taco salads and various stir-fry peanut/curry experiments. I like to bake cupcakes, to good result, although the process is not always the completely graceful.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics -- mostly because I worked on Barack Obama's campaign for a year. Women -- mostly because I'm a guy. Whatever translation project I'm currently working on -- mostly because I'm a perfectionist.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing Munchkin or something similarly dorky with some friends and having a few drinks. Maybe going to see a movie. Chasing my crazy Blue Heeler puppy around the apartment. Going to one of the microbreweries with my roommate to round out our St.-Louis-microbrewery-logo-pint-glass collection. Driving home to visit my parents. (Not all of those at the same time.)

I'm open to doing pretty much anything at least once, although I'm not a huge fan of going to bars.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I own a pair of boxers with Marios on them. It's not like a big thing for me, but I'm just going to put that out here in case it would be a deal breaker.

You should message me if

you live near St. Louis, you don't smoke, you don't have kids (maybe this makes me look like a huge jerk but I'm not ready to deal with that quite yet), you know the difference between its and it's (OK now I'm just being picky).

But most of all, if you feel like it. I'm looking to make new friends and meet new people and all that, so go for it. =]
