If I were to describe myself, I suppose the first thing that comes to mind is a creative type who needs to spend more time doing just that!
I'm a writer who has just started dabbling in acting and spend my free moments typing, watching, reading, and playing.
My passions in life are movies, manga, and games (board, rpgs, CAH, whatever)... though I've always wanted to learn to cook. I mean, REALLY cook, not just pour and stir meals.
I've written three novels in the past three years (Woo! NaNoWriMo!) and aim to do another this year and every year thereafter until I die (or become rich, famous, and thoroughly idle).
I've been on a fitness kick the past two years and spend my mornings (six days a week before work) at the college gym. I love rafting, but don't get to enough (usually just once a year), and will hike with the right motivations. ;)
I'm looking for someone just as creative and weird who maybe likes some of the same things but is just different enough that we keep each other on our toes (but can still relax together, too). Do you fit that playbill?
It's nifty just trying something new to expand my horizons, but I have to work up to it. :)
Books-wise, when I'm reading for pleasure it's mainly fantasy/sci-fi or manga. My current favorite book is too hard to decide, but probably high on the list is Laughable Loves by Milan Kundera (which makes me sad) right next to The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. Ready Player One pretty much explains the inner workings of my brain. My guilty pleasure books are The Dresden Files.
For music, primarily jazz for work (bebop mainly... I can't abide 80's synth-jazz) and industrial/techno for fun. If I were to name a favorite band, I'd have to say NIN... a close second and third would be Daft Punk and Gorillaz.
Favorite movie? Millenium Actress by Satoshi Kon (R.I.P.). Super 8 is a close second, almost tying with it. I'm a huge fan of MST3k and Rifftrax (isn't it awesome that MST3k got Kickstarted for a new series?!). Most nights I fall asleep to a random assortment of Rifftrax's takes on educational shorts from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. The majority of my MST3k collection is old fashioned transfers, but I'm trying to collect the box sets as they come out.
If you like anime at all, I heartily recommend a show called Hyouka. Last I checked, it wasn't out in America yet, but it's well worth the effort of tracking down.
Did I mention I love Sadie's Salsa? My guilty pleasure is their salsa with white corn tortilla chips. Lotsa fat in those, so I tend to only buy a bag a month, if that. My other guilty pleasure food is Chick-fil-a. I hate their politics, but LOVE their chicken. They're opening a store in Farmington soon and I will be in TROUBLE. Also, Skyline Chili. It's a miracle they haven't migrated outside of the Cincy area or I would be a whale.
I live in the desert, but long for the sea... hoping some day to live in a small cottage (with enough room for all my books) on the central or northern coast. I don't how long it will take to get there or if my need for it will wither when I do, but I hope it comes soon.
I especially dig folks who have passion for the arts. :)
