My self-summary
A bit European (by place of origin), a bit Japanese (after living in Japan for 7 years), but mostly a citizen of the world. I love traveling, experiencing new cultures, meeting interesting people, learning new languages and skills, and helping others. I truly appreciate intelligent conversation, and care about art, politics, the environment, education, human rights, and many other social issues.

In terms of personality type, apparently I'm either an INFP (Healer) or an INFJ (Councelor) - depending on which version of the Briggs-Meyer test you choose.
What I’m doing with my life
Working towards achieving my goals, but also smelling the roses every now and then.
I’m really good at
listening and empathizing, solving other people's problems, exploring places and cultures, learning, teaching / explaining things, remembering people's birthdays and important dates, procrastination, seeing the bigger picture, finding the humor in things
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no idea. You'd have to ask them. I guess it depends on the situation, the people I'm with, my current state of mind and energy level, and also on who's doing the noticing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Fiction: The Brave New World, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 1984, Animal Farm, Catch 22, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf etc.
Non-fiction: anything related to psychology, philosophy, social anthropology, politics, history and art - if I have the time.

Dogma, 7 years in Tibet, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Dead Poets Society, Chocolat, Chicago, Scent of a Woman, Out of Africa, Love actually, The English Patient, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Whatever works, Midnight in Paris, Head in the Clouds, The Age of Innocence, Lost in Translation, Meeting Joe Black, 21 Gramm, Mystic River, My Left Foot, A Beautiful Mind, French cinema, Spanish cinema (especially Almodovar)

Educational: National Geographic, Discovery, Travel Channel, History Channel, BBC documentaries. Oh, and TED Talks, though that's not TV.
Fictional: Da Vinci's Demons, House MD, The Good Wife, Damages, Sherlock, Elementary, Scandal, Castle, CSI, NCIS or any other good crime-solving series (helps me train my analytical thinking)

Music: depending on the mood I'm in, it could be jazz, blues, motown, bossa nova, chillout, electrotango, trip hop, classic rock, or classical

Food: some Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Indian, French, Italian, Greek, Turkish and other Mediterranean, but also fusion and anything new I haven't tried yet. Oh, and chocolate - in any form and shape, as long as it's dark.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
too many things to enumerate them all. The future, how to get where I want to be in life, that inspiring essay I read in a blog the other day, the role of mass media in manipulating public opinion, how to support my best friend who's going through a divorce, how to get the government to stop giving away protected land to friend circles to build their resorts on, how to fit as much traveling as possible in my otherwise academic routine etc. etc.
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't have a typical Friday night. I could be discovering a new ethnic cuisine restaurant, listening to a live band / concert, seeing a performance, or just spending quiet time at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
will be admitted privately.
