My self-summary
As my username suggests, I am from Montana. Montana is a fantastic place to grow up, and I really enjoyed my time there. I left for college in San Antonio, and I've been living in cities for 15 years now, so I can't exactly claim to be fresh from the woods. I will talk at length about the state, though, so you should probably be on guard for that.

Since leaving MT, I've lived in San Antonio, New Orleans, and Houston for 3-4 years each, with 3-4 month stints in Brussels and Moscow. I've been in NY for about 5 years. I loved each of these places for entirely different reasons. I doubt that I'll ever live outside of a city again.

My personality tends to be a mix of all of the places I've lived. I can initially come off as a pretty square individual, but I think that I have a biting sense of humor and a strong sense of fun. I am an optimist. I don't think I have any deep neuroses, but I definitely have quirks. I am in no way a "Type A" person. I'm intelligent, and a little cocky about it. I love nearly every food that I have ever eaten, but I can't stand rice. I never want to own a car again. I have to consciously remember not to talk too much when excited. I think that I am kind.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a staff attorney at a plaintiff's securities firm, but I'm hoping to switch legal fields at some point. I actually like my job, which is problematic, because it makes me lazy about pursuing the switch.
I’m really good at
Talking too much, talking too little, staying out too late.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know. If we meet, maybe you can tell me!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: LCD (I'm still grieving) Arcade Fire, Spoon, Stars of the Lid, The New Pornographers, Wilco, Modest Mouse, The Weeknd, Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade, Tim Hecker, Joanna Newsom, Nina Nastasia, The National, We Are Augustines, Sufjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, Andrew Bird, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beirut, Kanye West, The Mountain Goats, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Springsteen.

Or this.

Movies: My favorite movie of all time is Rear Window. Recent favorites include Michael Clayton, The Departed, The Big Lebowski (not that recent, I guess), The Secret in Their Eyes, Hugo, and Inglorious Basterds. I love to watch big, dumb action movies in the theater, especially in 3D.

Food: Hot wings, anything with chickpeas, good cheese, good beers, good Mexican and good BBQ (both nonexistent in this city), cuban sandwiches from Cafe Habana. Really though, anything but rice.

Planet Money is the most awesome thing in America.
The six things I could never do without
It looks like most people are going abstract with this one, but I'll stick to physical objects:

1) A laptop with a high-speed internet connection
2) My digital music collection (not physical, but still...)
3) My awesome new apartment!
4) My green jacket that I love and everybody else hates.
5) Hot showers and basic toiletries. I like being clean.
6) My MTA pass

I don't think I'd run into a burning building for any of these things, though, so I guess I should have gone abstract after all.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Work, play, food, my family, girls, politics, food, music, this city, food, my friends.

Planning my new apartment. I have no furniture! (Update: I now have furniture.)

Beard or no beard? I just shaved mine off after 6 years, and I'm very conflicted.

Why was 2007 such a great year for both music and movies?
On a typical Friday night I am
Having dinner or drinks with friends. Possibly sleeping so I can enjoy my Saturday with a clear head. Standard stuff, I know, but standard for a reason. I also love rock shows, but know surprisingly few music people in NY, and would love to meet some here.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
No good can come of this question.

Ooh, I thought of one. I have a lake! Not private, but always a good conversation starter.

You know this city, but always want to know it better. I'm always up for seeing a show or trying out a new restaurant or whatever this city has up its sleeve.

You're a positive person. This is a big one. I love my life, and want to be with somebody who loves theirs. Happiness is an extremely attractive quality.
