My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Wow, this is oddly difficult. I would describe myself as a deeply kind, friendly, outgoing, and open-minded guy who is a bit kooky (but in a sane way), and I tend to be attracted to those qualities in others, whether friends or partners. I am a fundamentally happy person, and my take on the world and its inhabitants is an overall positive one.Still trying to figure out some big questions about myself, and am working hard on that.

Have been living abroad for much of the last 10 years, and am re-acclimating to life in US. I would love to meet friendly, healthy, happy guys to assist me in my re-acclimation process. I like what I like, but I am open to most everything, especially the good stuff.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Is this a trick question? What I am doing with my life?? Wow. On the professional level, I am a university professor, who lives to teach. I am also a lawyer and legal consultant on international education, the rule of law, and stuff like that.

On the macro-level, I am still trying to grow up into the Me I want to be. This is proving to be far more work than my professional activities. But equally as fun.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Languages: I have studied a lot of them over the years. Have varying levels of attainment but love the process whether I ever end up proficient or not.

Teaching: My real love. Am happiest in the classroom with a group of vibrant students. There is truly nothing finer. Well, almost...

Making people laugh. Which makes me laugh. Which makes them laugh more.

There ARE other things. I will let you know when I think of them...
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My smile. Fair enough. I DO smile a lot. I wonder if I am goofy...

Another hard question

Books: Wow. Favorites far too numerous to count, so I will mention only some of the long-time faves: A Fine Balance (R. Mistry), Germinal (E. Zola), Naked/Barrel Fever, (D. Sedaris), A House for Mr Biswas (V.S. Naipaul), Pluie et Vent sur Télumée Miracle (S. Schwartz-Bart), The War of the End of the World (M. Vargas Llosa); Sacred Games (V. Chandra), Return to Love (Marianne Williamson). I also love to read Scandinavian crime thrillers curled up in bed.

Music: Florence+the Machine (can't stop listening to Florence lately!) Cesaria Evora, Ella, Ella and Louis, Sinatra, Blonde Redhead, Diana Krall, Jill Scott, Les Rita Mitsouko, Morcheeba, Macy Gray, Offer Nissim, Royksopp,Chava Alberstein. And Madonna.

Movies: Ma vie en rose, Requiem for a Dream, Jackie's Back, Dirty Laundry, Torch Song Trilogy, Guillermo del Toro films, Almodovar, Leon (The Professional), Hitchcock.

TV: The Comeback, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, the Wire (yes, I love HBO), Nurse Jackie, Downton Abbey, Prime Suspect, selected episodes of Reno 911. Yeah.

Places: Paris, Cairo, Tbilisi, LA, Madrid, Greece (the whole thing)

Food: Georgian (soo good), Thai, anything that is not too meaty...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I could never do without:
my friends/family
my iPod/Blackberry (or comparable devices:-)
a happy worklife
a valid passport

I would really miss if I didn't have access to them:
a good bed
my favorite books
a nice drink in a nice bar
a summery summer
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
relationships, things I did right, things I did wrong, the good times, the future, the past, and how to be more present, past and future travels, places I've seen, random people I have met, my dreams at night, and God. I also think a lot about silly stuff because it makes me laugh so much. I am the one walking down 9th Avenue laughing on his own. (well, I may not be the only one...)
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
out for an early drink or dinner and home with a book well before midnight. I may vary that by substituting movies or hanging out with friends for the drink. And if I am being crazy, I will come home and watch an episode of one of my favorite tv shows (for the 100th time).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
-I still listen to the music from college way too much (The Smiths, Echo, and that ilk)
-I fantasize about being...let's save that for later. I better hold a little something back.

any of this sounds remotely familiar or appealing to you. Well, maybe "remotely" is setting the bar too low, but I am open to meeting nice, new people, so I will let it stand.
