My self-summary
Self-deprecating and sarcastic pseudo-academic seeks intelligent, snarky, understanding, and upbeat foil.
What I’m doing with my life
I just finished my MA in Medieval Icelandic Studies at Háskóli Íslands in Reykjavík, and I'm back in Canada for at least a little while, checking out what's gone on while I've been away.

Otherwise, I generally go about life having as much fun as possible, whether that's just hanging out with people or hiking through a forest, or having some sort of death-defying adventure somewhere. That last one actually happens a bit more than I'm comfortable with admitting, truth told.
I’m really good at
Self deprecation, story telling, and coming up with ludicrous ideas, both academic and creative-wise. Also, drinking, smoking, and having facial hair. Some other things, too, but we can discuss those later, I suppose. By which I mean I'm handy with all sorts of home-repair.
The first things people usually notice about me
My facial hair, the pipe I'm smoking, or the fact that I'm pontificating loudly about ridiculous matters either academic, historical, or political.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: (NOTE: I am, at heart, a gigantic child, thus the Boys Adventure style books)
So many to list, but here are the ones that are my go-to choices: Don Quixote, The Three Musketeers, Les Miserables, The Warlord Chronicles, Sharpe's, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Egils saga, Njáls saga, the Robert E. Howard Conan stories, H.P. Lovecraft's stuff, The Malazan Book of the Fallen, and The Black Company stories.

Movies:
Star Wars (Original Trilogy), Star Trek II, III, IV, and VI, The Man with No Name trilogy, Braveheart, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Platoon, Django Unchained, and Pacific Rim (which is the most metal movie I have seen in a long time)

Shows:
Adventure Time, Hannibal, and Attack on Titan are really the ones that I'm following right now.

Music:
Much like with books, these are just my go-to ones: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Blind Guardian, Leonard Cohen, Sarah Slean, Symphony of Science, Nobuo Uematsu, The Tragically Hip, and Johnny Cash

Food:
Any and all kinds, but I have a soft spot for simple, well done Italian food.
The six things I could never do without
1) Someone to feign interest in my hare-brained schemes
2) Good whisky
3) Good tobacco
4) Good debate
5) Good discussion
6) Good books
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What in the hell I can do to make things better in the world.

Alternately, airships. And 8th-12th century weapons, which is what my MA thesis was on, and what I mostly present on at conferences.

Yes, I'm that kind of nerd. I apologize in advance.
On a typical Friday night I am
Drinking, reading, smoking, or out with friends doing a combination of those things. Exciting!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'd like to make a positive, long-lasting impact, but I'm feeling trapped and limited by the way in which our society has progressed; to make any appreciable impact, it feels as though you need to market yourself and, in order to market yourself, you need to excise the part of you that made you want to change the world in the first place.

Cheery, no?
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–35
  • Located anywhere
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, short-term dating
You should message me if
You don't mind chatting with someone who's basically committed himself to a fiscally fruitless but personally satisfying career path, and can tell stories pretty well.

If you don't mind that I'm probably not going to be in the area for too long, that'd be good too. If you're looking for someone to chat with on the Internets or via postal mail, that works for me! I realize that being a roguishly charming, globe-trotting academic/educator makes things difficult for long-term relationships of a romantical variety, so I'm not necessarily expecting things to go that way.

Also, if you want to have hot, hot make-outs with a bearded guy, I'm your man.
