I am working, on stuff, and in a cafe right now.

My Self-Summary

Recently moved to SF. A mercenary educator. They call me a professor, which is new. I teach history at college level, at various community colleges. Am an ex-violin prodigy. That was before rock n' roll ruined my life. I hope rock n' roll ruined your life. That's probably a prerequisite.

What I’m doing with my life

It's recently dawned on me that I'm going to be payed for my rantings and ravings about history in front of a captive audience. I feel like I've won the lottery.

I’m really good at

History, guitarring, making french toast, listening to people and hearing what they say (At least intellectually), playing dinosaurs with my friends' two year old, hanging out with cats, jogging with dogs, listening to the same albums for ten years, browsing books, stacking books, knocking stacks of books over, wearing backpacks with lots of books in them, you get my drift...

The first things people usually notice about me

The bumbling professor demeanor. Slightly off-kilter mannerisms. Big words and dry humor. Sarcasm. Not a shred of machismo. Noam Chomsky fandom and fashion sense.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

You know, Marquis Moon, Zen Arcade, Ege Bamyasi, the Big Star stuff. I love Black Flag, and Sabbath. The Velvets. Bert Jansch is moving me, and I'm bummed I missed seeing him in July.Text books are big in my life right now. Foner, Zinn, Middle East stuff.
I cook every day now, and my diet has definitely gone south of the border. Huevos rancheros has become a staple.
I like Vertigo. Now that I live in SF sometimes I feel like that.

The six things I could never do without

Musical things, layers of clothes for the cold, conversations, thinking, good people, new sights and smells, plane tickets to faraway places.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Winter is on its way. I'll be done with my MA. Time to start the rest of my life.

On a typical Friday night I am

Exploring my new neighborhood. Looking for exciting things to do. Playing music with some folks. Frantically putting together lesson plans (sometimes). Drinking beer and talking about exciting things.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

If it was the McCarthy era and we went out, you would so never work in this town again.

You should message me if

I like where I am and I like where I'm going. Maybe our paths intersect. Maybe you wanna get a drink or explore an interesting place we've never been. Maybe you want to speak French with me, or even a little Arabic.
