I am fun-loving, creative, and currently typing.

My Self-Summary

Hmm, let's see. I'm the guy who’ll remember your birthday (don't be too flattered - I like cake). I cherish my friends and family, though some are spread across the country (or out of it). I love my career and I’m a bit of a workaholic, but I also enjoy going out with friends, listening to music, watching TV and movies, and reading (from sci-fi to Sedaris, the Onion to op-eds). My job’s an indoor one, so I make time to get out and enjoy the beautiful LA weather. I love to travel when I can. I am honest but not in a cruel way. I am warm and direct, fun and quirky, generous and bright. (And modest, clearly.)

What I’m doing with my life

I've boldly resisted making a wise-ass comment (like "breathing"). I'm an author with a series of published children's novels (if Harry Potter and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy had a love-child, it might be like my books) and many more to write (for kids, teens, and adults). I moved to LA from NJ a long time ago and have no plans of moving back anytime soon. I am the proud keeper of several fish who asked that their names not be mentioned (they're shy), but I try very, very hard not to turn them into sushi. So far, so good.

I’m really good at

-Singing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" in karaoke. (Well, good compared to the other songs I sing.)
-I'm not very good at juggling but I do it anyway.
-I am an excellent napper (my specialty is the power-nap).
-Using chopsticks with either hand.
-Turning a good phrase verbally or in writing, though writing is more my thing. (Editing goes a long way.)
-Overusing parentheses and ellipses...and I like it.
-Though I'm pretty good at sarcasm, irony, and general wise-assedness (am I allowed to use that word here?), I think I am also good at being sincere, serious, stolid, sexy, and probably a few other words that start with 's.'

The first things people usually notice about me

My smile, I suppose, unless I'm not smiling. My eyes, maybe? I don't know - I'll ask people and write up a list.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love to read and am usually reading at least two different things. (I read a lot of kids'/ young adult books and sci-fi/ fantasy stuff because my career revolves around them, but I enjoy that!)

My Favorites are Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Life of Pi, Cat's Cradle, Eats Shoots and Leaves, Time Traveler's Wife, anything by David Sedaris, and...sometimes...The Fountainhead.

Movies...so many. I am not a huge fan of biopics, dramas or musicals, but there are huge exceptions to that. To name a few of my favorites...Princess Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas, Annie Hall, .

Music...I can't go too long without music, and I like almost everything except heavy metal, gangsta rap, and most country (I do like some Johnny Cash).

Food? My absolute favorites are pizza (ny style, preferably), meat (steak or burgers make me smile)(after I'm done chewing), and chocolate. But I'm pretty omnivorous - I do happily eat veggies and fruit and healthy stuff, oh my!

The six things I could never do without

In no particular order...
1. Books
2. My laptop (computer, that is, though I'm pretty attached to my lap, too)...or at least something to write/ access the internet on
3. Music
4. Chocolate
5. Meat
6. Gum (sugar-free Extra is my fix of choice)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Stories that I've seen or read, stories growing in my head;
what shall I get to eat, wonder who I'm going to meet;
the world can be so unkind, solace thru music in my mind;
sorry that these answers rhyme...I don't do that all the time.

(Wow, that was so corny that I feel I Have to leave it!)

On a typical Friday night I am

Spending time with friends (dinner? movie? drinks?) or working late (though I sometimes meet up with friends later)(I'm a night-owl).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Just between you and me...how private would it be if I told everyone? You want private, ask me privately...

You should message me if

You like the cut of my jib. (In other words, if you find me attractive, interesting and humorous, and you think we might get along...and you can handle that I sometimes say things like "the cut of my jib.")

I must warn you that I am allergic to most (but not all) cats...I like them, I just might die because of them. A slow, painful, sneezy death.
