My self-summary Propose an edit
I am a down to earth kind of guy. I like to laugh and love going to
see comedy shows
and comedians. I also love live music, especially alternative and
punk rock, but
I'm fond of most genres. I enjoy art and theater and would one day
like to check out the opera if I ever get around to it. I like
trying new foods and will try pretty much anything at least once. I
have a sarcastic sense of humor, but I'm not overly smarmy.
Consider yourself warned though, I tend to be a bit of a smart ass
on a regular basis.
I am originally from Maryland, from a small town with 2 stop lights
called Clear Spring. It was pretty rural...I grew up across the
street from a dairy farm. I am the youngest and only boy of 5. I
have a multiracial background, I am half Trinidadian/Asian and half
British/German Caucasian. I was also raised Mormon, but kind of
drifted away from the church. I still maintain some of the beliefs,
but just don't practice and no I am not a polygamist. I have a lot
of traditional values because of my upbringing but I am not uptight
or stuck up because of it. I am a relatively liberal thinker
considering my religious upbringing and am a proponent of equal
rights, the environment, and personal freedoms. I am very accepting
of others and get along with all types of people. I am a firm
believer in the power of compromise and cooperation. I try to
maintain an optimistic outlook on life and people.
I try to stay informed on current issues, its kinda mandatory for
school too. I am a regular reader of the economist and of the major
news networks I rely on CNN and the BBC for my news. (Not much of a
fan of Fox News, and generally dislike Bill O'Reilly). I enjoy a
good debate on almost any issue, but I am not afraid to admit
defeat or that I am wrong if so proven.
I am a strong supporter of the environment and environmental
issues, regardless of my capitalistic spirit. I am a firm believer
that capitalism is not all bad and that is can coexist with
environmentalism as well as social programs if properly implemented
and regulated. My car runs on biodiesel (when I can get it) and I
encourage anyone and everyone to embrace or at least investigate
alternative sources of fuel as well as its consequences (I know
that is not all sunshine but its better than petrol in most
instances). I try to recycle and not to litter because captain
planet is my hero (wtf is up with heart anyway?)

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I work in IT and I just finished grad school at Nova for business.
I'm still taking a few classes to work on a specialization in
finance. I am trying to find a job but its not looking good with
the economy in the crapper. Ideally I'd like to get a job in the
financial industry or management that would allow for international
travel, but currently I am hoping to just find something. I am also
starting to swim in hopes of completing a triathlon in the coming
year. I have a dream of opening a bistro one day, but that dream
keeps getting further away these days.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
horticulture (I have a greenish thumb), cooking, creating memorable
drunken stories, singing and karaoke (only after a drink or two
though)
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
You'd have to ask them, these things always ask that and I never
know what to answer. Physically, I guess they'd notice my smile
and/or that I don't look Asian at all (with a name like Bruce Lee,
people always ask). Personality-wise I guess I'd say they'd notice
how genuine I am.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Not a huge reader of books, the last book I read other than a text
book I read was Consumed and I'm still working on that one. I enjoy
some classics like Dickens, Thoreau, Goethe, etc. I also enjoy
reading poetry, some fiction, and a little fantasy (Stephen King,
John Grisham, the Harry Potter series, J.R.R. Tolkien - the hobbit
was the best). I am also a regular reader of Men's Health and Food
and Wine magazine.
Some of my favorite movies include Adaptation (its probably one of my
favorite movies, gotta love Charlie Kaufman), V for Vendetta, Tommy
Boy, Half Baked, Grandma's Boy, Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin,
Office Space,
Pan's Labyrinth, Emilie, The Life Aquatic, Chocolate, American
Beauty, I Heart Huckabees, Shawshank Redemption, Sin
City, The City of God, Requiem for a Dream, Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, Fight Club,
Pay it Forward, Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects, The Fifth
Element, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and many more.
I am also an avid watcher of Comedy Central and a regular watcher
of the Daily
Show and the Colbert Report. I also like
South Park,
Adult Swim, Drawn Together, Heroes, ATHF, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs,
The Office, Bill Maher, Top Chef, Dexter, Entourage, True Blood and
Family Guy. I'm not really a sports person but I do watch them a
few times during the year and not religiously (just the
championships really).
I have an eclectic taste in music. I like classic jazz (Miles
Davis, John Coltrane) and some modern jazz especially when reading.
Classical and opera are my go to music for studying, Pavarotti and
Bocelli especially. I primarily listen to
rock/alternative/punk/indie, especially stuff from the 90's. I also
listen to a little rap, hip-hop, and pop primarily when I am at
work since that is what my coworkers listen to. Some of my
favorites include: Cake, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against
the Machine, Pearl Jam (only the good ones before he got all
political), Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink 182 and their
offshoots (+44, Angels and Airwaves, Boxcar Racer), Foo Fighters,
Sublime, 311, Green Day, Offspring, Deftones, old DMB, Death Cab
for Cutie, The Postal Service, Snow Patrol, Arcade Fire, Bjork
(I've only really listened to Vespertine, her other stuff was kinda
odd), Against
Me! (one of the best bands you probably haven't heard of),
Slightly
Stoopid, Matisyahu, Brand New, Alkaline Trio, The Maccabees,
Flogging Molly, Modest Mouse, Gogol Bordello, Oasis, Catch 22,
Cobra Skulls, Peter and John Bjorn, and countless others.
I am a foodie at heart and love all kinds of food. I try to keep it
to healthy fare, but I can't resist the good stuff! As mentioned
earlier, I try anything and have been branching out to all the
different ethnic foods available down here. I enjoy Japanese,
Chinese, Hong Kong style Dim-Sum, Korean, Vietnamese, Argentinian,
Brazilian, Mediterranean, Italian, German, Caribbean, French and
Indian cuisine... pretty much everything. I pretty much enjoy all
types of food as long as the flavors meld well. I love seafood,
especially scallops and shrimp. I am also a big fan of cheese; my
favorites include huntsman, goat gouda, prima dona, robusto, and
extra sharp cheddar but I am always looking for more. I also love
to watch Iron Chef and a few other shows on the food network.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Food is an absolute necessity along with water so they don't really
count, my family is important in my life so I could never do
without them, my friends are like my extended family so they are
in, a world without happiness would be awful so I've gotta have
that, laughter and smiles, my computer, and music
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
my future (namely my career and how I am gonna get it going),
whatever class I'm taking, preserving and restoring the environment
and nature, alternative energy, politics and why our government is
so messed up, why it is so hard to meet quality people in Florida,
what to make for dinner, and all sorts of other random stuff
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Lately I've been in class on Friday nights. When I don't have class
it could range from hanging out at a friend's place, taking in an
occasional movie, going out for happy hour downtown or just chillin
at home. I'm usually up for just about anything, I'm a bit of a
night owl usually.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
Here's a fun story about me. When I was a kid we were playing king
of the hill on a mound of mulch. I was sitting on the mulch mound
and started getting bitten by ants...a lot of ants. I got up an
started screaming and trying to get them off. My mom ran out of the
house to see what all the commotion was about. She saw I had ants
all over my legs and proceeded to pull off my pants and underwear
and sweep off the ants with her dish towel. That's right, I had
ants in my pants...literally. Its not a laughing matter when its
happening to you, but looking back it was probably pretty hilarious
to my sisters and neighbors.
I'm not really sure what other kinds of private things you might
want to know, so don't hesitate to ask. I'm usually not too shy
about talking about myself.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You aren't a narcissist; you have a big heart; you'd like to
discuss/debate intellectual and political topics; you care about
the environment; or you just want to get to know me. If you know of
any awesome recipes or great bottles of wine I'd love to know too.
Also if you are a chill person who is into some of the same stuff
as me lets chat it up.
