My self-summary
I'm a fairly laid-back military brat, who for the last 5 years (2003-2008) called northern Virginia home, and am now learning to love Richmond! My IM is always on, so feel free to strike up a conversation any time.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently trying giving 110% to school while volunteering in accordance with my career interest. I currently volunteer with the Richmond SPCA, and at a veterinary practice called Helping Hands.

I'm taking gen-ed's at JSRCC in preparation for transferring to a school with a Veterinary Technician program.
I’m really good at
I have quite the calming effect around animals (or so I've been told). Being there for my friends/family. Creating awkward moments (sometimes). Killing internet chat rooms. Not knowing when to shut myself up. Modifying and painting NERF guns into a "steampunk" style that fits my liking. BEING RANDOM (hey~look~ a~unicorn!). (Attempting to) give second-hand diagnoses of the ailments of four-legged companions. Generally being a geek.
The first things people usually notice about me
My height! I'm constantly being asked whether I play basketball (and no, I don't...I'm just not that coordinated =o). I'm also a bit of a contortionist, however this "talent" is withering away with age and building of muscle mass. I've also been told that I've got a good sense humor.

Recently it has come to my attention that I apparently look like Dirk Nowitzki. Having no clue who he was, I googled him and found a lanky, scraggly basketball player. Not my sport, but hey, I'll take a compliment where I can get it!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: These days I'm trying to challenge myself to read a book a month. I gravitate towards philosophy of all sorts ~ Judeo-Christian texts and Nietzsche. While I could never see myself subscribing to it, I would be interested in researching the various branches of Satanism. For lighter reading, I like George Orwell, Chuck Palahniuk, David Sedaris, and graphic novels. Ah yes, graphic novels (and not comic books).
Movies:Rather than list off some favorites, I'd rather give some filmmakers whom I like. My tastes in movies are simply too varied and change to often to be easily qualified. The only constant is my love for campy, overacted, B-grade movies. I mean really, who doesn't want to see The Rocky Horror picture show for the thousandth time in drag? Anything with Jason Statham in it, I'll likely be a fan of. My favorite film makers include the Coen Brothers, Kevin Smith, John Waters, Alfred Hitchcock, and Stanley Kubrick. More and more I'm finding an appreciation for the "classics" of cinema, usually pre-'85.
Shows: Finally an easy one for me! Futurama (and definitely not Simpsons, that became stale long before my time), It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Shield, Sons Of Anarchy, Walker: Texas Ranger, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Invader Zim, and Breaking Bad.
Music: I'm so pathetically top 40 in my muzak tastes. I do like all Maynard James Keenan projects, Sublime, Pygmy Love Circus, Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, some classical, the occasional techno/house, Pink Floyd, Rage Against The Machine, Jethro Tull, System Of A Down, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Rise Against. Be forewarned that I do consider myself a Marilyn Manson aficionado, in my opinion he is the consummate artist. For those so inclined, I refer you to
Food: Since I was a military brat growing up, that afforded me the luxury of having traveled more in that time than some people do in a life time. I've got a pretty diverse palate. That said, I do prefer soul food (think southern staples), sushi, German food, Mexican, and anything spicy, within limits. I'm trying to teach myself how to cook right now, but I try to fix something different each time despite being a steak and potatoes kind of guy.
The six things I could never do without
Family: the people who helped to raise and shape who I am today. I need to hear my mom's voice at least every other day. 'Nuff said.
Animals, and my love for them: The reason I'm in school right now, and the career I'd most like to pursue right now.
The Internet: My constant companion, source of distraction, entertainment, information, titillation, part of the reason I'm perpetually broke. My latest addiction is, a site that I highly recommend to a breadth of gamer personality types. That about sums it up.
Music and the sounds of nature and the everyday: I'm an audiophile. I much prefer radio and audio mediums to many things visual, especially television. My ipod is an extra appendage. One of the happiest times for me is waking up or being up at the time the song birds start singing in the morning.
Depravity and warped/cynical sense of humor: It's just the way I cope and entertain myself sometimes. I find it makes things easier to deal with, especially when things happen in the world that don't make sense or that just make me wish for blessings of nuclear holocaust to be bestowed upon mankind.
A healthy sex drive: Certainly makes life more interesting and fun. Anyone who would not consider it one of life's driving forces is a little off.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My future career and how to get there. The silliness of advertising techniques, and why corporations think the public at large are bumbling buffoons. Whether or not God exists. Morals and ethics. Family.

"Tell me something beautiful/
/tell me something free/
/tell me something beautiful/
/and I wish that I could be."
On a typical Friday night I am
When my studies allot me the free time, I'm usually out at One Eyed Jacques playing Friday Night Magic. Otherwise, I usually find myself trying to get half my work done for the weekend before making plans. Hopefully in the near future, my free time will be occupied by gainful employment.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Just so it doesn't come as a surprise to you, I've got a slew of disorders. I'm autistic (Asperger's Syndrome to be precise), have ADD, and am bipolar. don't worry, I take meds to keep it all in check.

I try to approach my life with full disclosure, especially in regards to the way I try and deal with others (or perhaps just having to deal with society in general). It's not always the most fun or easy way to do things, but a brutally honest method is what I'm finding to be best right now. I'd really appreciate it when people don't try and sugar-coat things or try to "lessen a blow", just give it to me straight so we can both put whatever needs to be out on the table without arbitrary censorship. Thanks.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 23–35
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You should definitely consider messaging me if you can honestly consider yourself to be kind, caring, tolerant, quirky, geeky/nerdy, and still having a child-like sense of wonderment doesn't hurt, either. I also need someone who can be snarky and sarcastic, willing to curse me out, but is able to do both of those things in a constructive manner. A good sense of humor is a must. Being a good cook doesn't hurt, it might be something that you could work with me on ;) .

Also, kudos to those who get either or both of the lyrics references. Just a little insight into my muzak tastes :)
