So, i recently got a note from a charming and dishy guy that i
needed to update what i have here...so i informed him that i'd been
too bloody busy to change it lately. But alas, peer pressure haunts
me, and so here i am...
12:45am, Saturday morning...loving having made the choice to stay
home tonight. The week has been so steeped in wine, friends and
food that i feel justified in saying no to the gong show that is
Canada Day festivities in town. Isn't that the best part of getting
a bit older and figuring things out - knowing that there'll always
be another time down the road to party or hang out?
1am, Wednesday morning, a few months ago....sitting on the couch
chatting on the phone with my friend Dr. Mel about polyamory, nude
photo shoots and graduate theses. She's a little redheaded girl
with a high-pitched voice and even higher intelligence quotient,
and she's crazy and dirty. We talk about everything, all the
details, no editing, so i consider her the best sort of
friend.
Just got back from 4 days in Seattle. The trip was defined by a
moment of realization last night that i was having dinner,
philosophizing and laughing my ass off with a stuntman, a clothing
designer, a masseuse, a metal sculptor, and a photographer and
videographer. Sublime.
I've been back in North America for 1 week; the last five months
were spent in Southeast Asia and Australia, doing a bit of
volunteering but mostly vacationing. Still processing all the
insights and epiphanies...in the meantime i'm having culture shock
- not because of coming back to western 'culture', because the
first shock of the madness in a supermarket in Oz brought that all
roaring back, but because of the difference between the traveller's
culture and at-home life. I actually like being somewhere new every
few days, and i like how open people are to connecting when they're
out of their normal element....
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Currently not working in the traditional sense; enjoying time off,
drinking way too much red wine, falling in love, trying to motivate
myself to write, taking every opportunity to dance, trying to
figure out how i'll make money in the fall, starting to think about
heading to the desert in August, being nomadic - always thinking
about where my next trip will be...
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Finding grammar and spelling mistakes, making tofu taste good,
knowing intuitively what's wrong with my car, making lists, cooking
green curry, making puns, giving massages and back scratches,
keeping secrets...
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My eyes, and that i look young for my age.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books...hmmm, way too many to list. The Invisibles graphic novel series, and
works by Timothy Findley, Neil Gaiman (American Gods), and
Gabrielle Roth.
Food...chocolate, Indian, Thai, fresh cherries and raspberrries,
peppermint patties, omelettes, good olives, tomatoes and feta
cheese. Anything with cumin or caraway seeds. really.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
The space between my duvet and my bed, Roger's chocolates, the
hours between midnight and 4am, my tribe of friends (not witty but
utterly true), the words "absolutely" and "anyways", and dancing
until you can't talk.
