I think these tend to all sound the same. I like travel and beaches
as much as the next guy, but I don't get why they need to be up
front and center in so many first paragraphs. Anyway, I like
beaches fine, and travel is cool, too, though I do work a job where
anything more than a weekend requires plenty of advance
I'm here, I suppose, for the same reasons everyone else is - I am
not seeing anyone, and figure this may be another avenue to try to
meet someone special, and/or meet some new friends along the way.
My other profile stuff seems to cover my basic interests (Yoga,
Martial Arts, Music, Dogs, Literature, Theater, Volunteering,
etc.), so feel free to ask about any of the above...
What I’m doing with my life
Living it as meaningfully, and playfully, as I can. I have a good
career as an attorney that I enjoy more often than not, and I have
to do something to pay for my extracurricular activities. Prior to
that job, I was a bartender in Annapolis for several years, paying
my way through undergrad part time and then doing the law school
thing full time. I bought a little townhome a couple of years ago,
and, when I can, am busy tring to fix that up, while keeping the
dog entertained on the weekends, and practicing Yoga and
traditional Japanese martial arts, including Aikido, Karate, Jodo
and Iaido. I read a bunch, and catch live music whenever possible.
Just started guitar lessons a few months ago - I suck - but I am
enjoying trying to suck less.
I’m really good at
I can make a mean margarita. I'm a good writer (present work
notwithstanding). I have fantastic opinions on movies, music and
literature - just ask me. I wouldn't say that I'm "good" at them
necessarily, but I practice traditional Japanese martial arts 3-5
days a week and really love it. I'm a pretty good judge of
character, a really solid friend (I'm the guy who you call for
rides to the airport, etc.), and I'm great with dogs - I could have
been the "dog whisperer" first, if I had known that was a real
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd like to say something like "my rugged chin and John Wayne-like
presence" or remarkable singing voice, but, no. Dry wit/sarcasm,
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Way too much to include on the music front, but the very favorites:
Van Morrison, The Band, Bob Dylan, The Clash, U2, Johnny Cash, The
Counting Crows, The Grateful Dead, The Beastie Boys, Grace Potter
and the Nocturnals.
Books: Again, an awful lot, but Of Mice and Men, Slaughterhouse
Five, A Prayer for Owen Meaney, A River Runs Through It, Shoeless
Joe, The Alchemist. Currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns -
same author who wrote The Kite Runner, and so far it's really
Movies: again, way too many to list, but chief among them: The
Godfather, It's a Wonderful Life, Harvey, Better off Dead.
The six things I could never do without
Alliteration (just kidding)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Just about everything. I'm a thinker (which isn't always a good
thing, so I'm not bragging, just saying...)
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm typically meeting friends for a cocktail after work, unless
I've planned something out with a friend or two like a play or
movie, etc. Every now and again I'll sneak in an extra Aikido class
or Yoga practice first.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
what, are you kidding?
