I am this game, makes, and me nervous.

My Self-Summary

I am a grad student at NYU working on a master's degree in "The Humanities and Social Thought." What this means, I am still figuring out. I also do some freelance writing for non-profits (grants, brochures, the occasional children's book) to make ends meet. These days, I'm living in the Village with Hugo, my French bulldog puppy, and spend a lot of time trying to prevent him from shitting in the kitchen.

What I’m doing with my life

Like I said, doing the master's degree thing at NYU. I'm applying for Ph.D. programs this fall, and would like to end up a professor of media studies, cultural studies, comp lit, or some such related field. I also do some creative writing and have had a short play produced in the East Village and a few stories published here and there. And there's raising this damn puppy.

The first things people usually notice about me

Big green eyes. Thanks Mom!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Most of my reading is done for school, and consists largely of the kind of critical and literary theory that sounds equal parts obnoxious and nerdy. But my favorite fiction writers are Don DeLillo, David Mitchell, Michael Chabon, and George Saunders.

Music-wise, it's a lot of rock 'n' roll: Gaslight Anthem, the Hold Steady, Bob Dylan, Okkervil River, Drive-By Truckers, the Rural Alberta Advantage, and the Clash are favorites. I have an embarrassing predilection for EuroTrash techno, too. When I was a kid, I loved punk rock. To be honest, I still love punk rock.

Movies: honestly don't watch to many of them. I prefer shitty TV shows.

Food: all of it. I am the furthest thing from picky. But I do eat a disproportionate number of tacos, chicken salad sandwiches, and Cups-Of-Noodles.

The six things I could never do without

1. Friends and fam.
2. The puppy.
3. Rock 'n' roll music.
4. Reading in the bathtub.
5. Late night Taco Bell.
6. NYC.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

school; how much longer I will be in school; the fact that after all that school, I will still be making a fraction of what my friends'll bring home

On a typical Friday night I am

at a friend's apartment or at a bar quiet enough to talk in. Sometimes there are concerts. Other times, there are books and schoolwork.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I often listen to the same song on repeat for hours at a time.

You should message me if

I sound interesting?
