I am obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant.
My Self-Summary
By day I work on one of the coolest web sites around for a company
you've probably heard of. Actually, sometimes I do that by night
too, but it doesn't tend to get in the way of my personal life. And
I love it.
By night (and by night I mean whenever I'm not working, which
sometimes is during the day) I am a
father, an avid
music lover,
photographer and
writer, not necessarily in
that order. Well, except the father part. My kids are the most
important thing in my life. They stay with me three days a week and
during those days I'm usually unavailable, save for a little 'net
time after bedtime. I don't mix my personal relationships with my
kids.
What I’m doing with my life
Writing,
photography and
music - that's how I
express myself creatively and provide stimulation and inspiration
for my soul. I see a lot of
live music, and I mean a lot. I am
usually at a show on a weekly basis. I frequent the smaller venues;
I've done my time in arenas and I prefer the intimacy and
connection that a small club provides. And there is so much good
music in this town.
I also write songs and perform them. I tend to write snarky songs
with a lot of
guitar based in the
blues. I'm pretty much a regular at
this point at one of the coolest and best open mikes in Boston. If
you know who 24HourTom is, you know what I'm talking about.
I’m really good at
Blogging. But you
can judge for yourself. Check out www.davesphotoblog.com.
I also have a knack for bringing waterlogged cell phones back to
life.
I tend to pull out exactly the same number of crackers and cheese
slices by random chance. Weird, huh?
The first things people usually notice about me
I am a very honest person, and that's not a line. I really have a
hard time lying. Sometimes I can be, "diplomatic," and pull it off.
Most of the time, I express my true feelings both verbally and
through body language. But I also don't shy away from talking about
very many things. I'm a big guy. I can take it. I'd rather have a
hard conversation about a bad topic than pretend everything is
cool.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I listen to way too much music to list it all here. But I'll give
you a sample. I love the old stuff,
Led Zeppelin,
Jimi Hendrix,
Frank Zappa, [insert
your favorite classic rocker here]. I listen to a lot of
jazz, from the
Mahavishnu
Orchestra to
Garaj Mahal (and
Garage a Trois),
Dave Fiuczynski,
Revolutionary Snake
Ensemble and more. I love a band that totally rocks, like
Mission of
Burma,
The Neighborhoods,
Buckethead, the
Presidents of the USA or
the
Pretenders.
I groove on the
blues with
Ronnie Earl,
Etta James,
Mia Dyson,
Duke Levine,
Bonnie Raitt. And then there's
bands like
Galactic,
Mieka Pauley,
Lake Street Dive,
The
Baker Thomas Band,
Brendan Hogan and
Parliament. And then there are a
lot of local artists (aside from those I've already listed) like
Nicole Berke,
The New
Alibis,
The New Frustrations,
Sidewalk
Driver,
January Broke. Oh, I just can't
go on, it's just all so good. If only the unwashed masses had any
idea of how much great, GREAT music there is in this town.
*sigh*.
I love to read, but haven't been reading much lately, although some
of my favorites include
Robinson Crusoe,
The River Wild,
Into the
Wild,
science fiction and the
Lord of
the Rings.
My favorite movies are about, hmm, let's see if you can guess:
Almost
Famous,
Spinal
Tap,
That Thing You Do...but I also
love the original
Andromeda Strain,
All About Eve, and of
course,
Start The Revolution
Without Me. I loved the original
Producers too, but then it hit
Broadway and got so popular that now apparently I have to be all
snooty about it.
Food? Love American, Mexican, Chinese, Italian. Hate condiments,
vinegar and anything with sour cream in it. That actually sucks,
but I can't do much about it at this point.
The six things I could never do without
Music
My Guitar
My Journal (online or those quaint book-like things)
My Kids
My Friends
Women
(but not necessarily in that order)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I've lived abroad and have a somewhat different perspective on
American culture than my contemporaries. By the way, living abroad
pretty much ruined watching TV for me here in the states. My kids
watch it, but I generally don't have the patience for it. If I do
watch something, it's usually excerpted on the computer and most of
the time it's either
Jon Stewart or
Stephen Colbert.
I'm politically progressive, but very much driven by facts and
common sense. If I think something is the right thing to do, it
doesn't matter to me if it came from a democratic, republican,
libertarian, or martian. Obviously I'm kidding a bit. There have
been very few good republican ideas lately.
On a typical Friday night I am
...either at home loving my kids, or paying my babysitter so I can
see a concert or have dinner somewhere. Or both. I mean, both
dinner and a concert, not dinner and a concert with my kids. Oh
wait a minute, I've done that too.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
OK, OK, I give up. I like
iCarly, but at least I'm man enough to
admit it.
You should message me if
Contact me if you want to explore a friendship with a smart,
technically savvy, loyal and yet highly creative and artistic guy.
And definitely if you want interesting company for a local concert.
You know,

The Paradise,
The Lizard Lounge
- that sort of thing.
