My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a public school band director who has bachelor's and master's degrees in music and a doctoral degree in education. I'm somewhat to the left politically, and I manage my money well (I have zero debt, and I invest). I enjoy live music, romance, movies, reading, culture, museums, bookstores, libraries, history, learning, dining out, cooking out on the grill, mountains, the Texas Hill Country, the Cowboys, the Rangers, the Mavs, animals, and going out to have a good time.

I am attracted to women who are intelligent, educated, and/or professionally successful. I think honesty, trust, loyalty, communication, and respect are important within relationships. I also feel that two people in a relationship should be each other's best friend. Physically, I like all hair and eye colors, and prefer slim to average. I prefer to date a Christian.

Update: the mustache is now gone.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a dedicated educator who wishes to pass on my appreciation for music to my students. But making time to relax and to enjoy my hobbies is important to me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
...my work. I am also an intellectual, academically inclined, a proficient writer, and knowledgeable regarding music, education, and various history. I'm good at conversation and at being loyal to those about whom I care.
The first things people usually notice about me

That I'm a very genuine and sincere person. I also get compliments for my smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
My favorite books tend to be nonfiction. I like biographies (especially about various musicians) and the true crime genre.

My favorite movies tend to be in the drama, suspense, and biography genres. Examples of movies I like include: "Unbroken," "American Sniper," "Fury," "Walk the Line," "Ray," "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Amadeus," "Immortal Beloved," "Silence of the Lambs," "A Few Good Men," "Saving Private Ryan," "The Green Mile," and "Gran Torino."

I love most music if it's good. I like most of the genres other than rap, hip hop, and heavy metal. I particularly love jazz (especially '40s/big band, Dixieland, Sinatra, and Buble), country (especially classic country and Western swing), classical, opera, jazz-rock (such as Chicago), classic rock (such as Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Beatles), folk (such as Peter, Paul, & Mary and John Denver) and soul (such as Ray Charles and classic Motown).

Would you like me to take you to hear the the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson? Or to the opera at the Winspear Opera House? How about Elton John at the American Airlines Center? To see the Mavs or Rangers?

I like seafood, Mexican food, Chinese food, and barbecue. I'm pretty flexible regarding food.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
In addition to the basics, music, books, quality friends, my iPhone, my computer and time to relax.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...the future, music, my work (but try not to overemphasize it), and whatever I am reading at the time.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
...relaxing after the work week or on a date.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This seems like an oxymoron! Do you agree?
