My self-summary
Everything about me contradicts something else about me. I'm laid-back, but tend to take life too seriously. I'm open-minded and despise everything judgmental but enjoy mercilessly making fun of friends. I focus on enjoying things but am so driven that sometimes all I can think about is what I haven't accomplished yet. When I want something, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I want it. (Unless I'm confused about it.) I also hate "self-summarizing" despite the fact that it's pretty much what I do for a living.
What I’m doing with my life
I make my living writing various things. Video games, some movie stuff, and I consult on scripts and assist writers. I just moved (in the last month or so) from NY to LA to bring my career to the next level... I was a life-long New Yorker, so it's been quite a shift.
I’m really good at
self-deprecating humor, unfounded confidence, romantic gestures, lost causes, skepticism, seeing both sides of an argument, making life mistakes, having fun, thinking, empathy, being a friend, staring off wistfully, hopefully some other things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd guess my sense of humor... I get some good lines in. I also often stop in the middle of a conversation to write things people say down if I find them interesting, so that's kind of weird.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: a lot of pop psychology and science books. If it reads like the author wants to be Malcolm Gladwell and point out really insightful scientifically-driven things about the world, I'm probably digging it.

Also: assorted literary fiction. Currently, George Saunders has a new book of short stories. He is probably my favorite "Writer" in the pretentious way. Post-modern fiction satirizing consumer-driven society while still having a heart. A few years ago Gary Shteyngart (who knows how to spell that) wrote a book called Super Sad True Love Story. I loved it.

movies: just, everything. Anything that's smart enough to keep me guessing and caring. This year: Flight, Silver Linings Playbook, Looper, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Take this Waltz, Ted. Recent Years: Drive, Take Shelter, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Michael Clayton, Crazy Stupid Love, The Social Network. I see a LOT of movies in the theater.

TV: Favorites of all time: West Wing, The Wire, 30 Rock, Scrubs. Currently: Hmmm. Nothing amazing right now.

Music: lots of indie stuff, and some more mainstream pop stuff. Lots of film scores. Currently: Passion Pit, Stars, new Tegan and Sara. Always: Snow Patrol, Pete Yorn, Ben Folds.

Food: Pretty much anything. I have very eclectic taste and like discovering new things. I have also always been a meat eater, but enjoy eating at vegeterian/vegan places as well. Folks there know how to do great things with veggies that meat-eaters just can't do.

How is there no podcasts section here?
The six things I could never do without
why six? sort of arbitrary.

hmmm. skipping the obvious:

1) laughing; 2) creative/career fulfillment; 3) love (which includes about 50 types); 4) exposure to ideas, feelings, and opinions I have not (yet) had myself; 5) intellectual turn-ons of all kinds; 6) bullet-pointed lists of deeply-confessional personality traits for public consumption.

alternate: any sport/physical activity that provides an endorphin rush.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
fiscal policy, erosion of the middle class, party etiquette, the line between abusive drinking and alcoholism, "the future," what makes one happy, the nature of relationships, why if the divorce rate is 50% they don't start focusing on the "still-married rate," the lineup and starting rotation of the NY Yankees, how I can love romantic comedies and action movies EQUALLY, what makes people laugh, emotional pain, evolutionary science, and um, everything else (it feels like).
On a typical Friday night I am
having drinks with some people I feel very comfortable being myself around, or working on a project I can't bring myself to stop working on.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I was on this site years ago when I was back in NY. I am wildly annoyed that if I want to change this ridiculous screenname, I'll have to pay money. I am still kind of a dork, but not enough of one to want this screen name.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 23–35
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you haven't found any of the above obnoxious or pat and you feel like showing a native New Yorker around town a bit.
