My self-summary
Like most people I'm full of contradictions. I take life pretty seriously, but laugh at myself constantly. When I was twenty-four I wrote software for a living, though what I really wanted to do was write a travelogue. Instead I started my own company, guaranteeing I'd have no time to pursue writing for at least a decade.

I'm deeply curious about the world, and find innumerable ways to try to understand it. Momma raised me right, so not only do I do the dishes without being asked, I don't resent it. And while I'm not much of a cook, I appreciate people who are.

I still read fiction (I seem to be the only guy I know who does ?!?), I love to travel, and I'm up for nearly anything if it's my first time. I'm funny as hell (and modest!) but think sarcasm is too easy and don't like cynicism. I'm as vain as the next guy, and spent enough time in New York to know the value of a good haircut and that pleats suck, but am happiest in an old t-shirt and my Clydes. I find the beauty and diversity of the world constantly humbling and hate pretense; like everyone else I'm insecure enough to resort to the occasional unnecessary allusion.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an accidental businessman and five-time entrepreneur who is still amazed how much I enjoy my job, though I'm working hard on the old work / life balance. I run a 70 person company with offices in SF, Israel, and London, so I spend more of my time on airplanes than I'd like. My reward is working on perpetually challenging problems with a slew of creative and brilliant people, which is a great counterbalance.
I’m really good at
Hmmm. I can still do a Rubik's Cube in less than 2 minutes. And that's hotter than you might think.
The first things people usually notice about me
Nice eyes? Easy smile? A young 43?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I can't pick a favorite book, though I think Nassim Taleb is right that the most important part of a library are the books you haven't read yet. I read constantly -- the last few months have included Oh Jerusalem!, some Sherlock Holmes (don't ask), The Black Swan, How The Dead Dream, Carpenter's Gothic, Six Days of War, An End to All That, Creating a World Without Poverty, and the Singularity is Near. The best part about too much time on airplanes is it gives me a chance to read.

Music is a mixed lot. Love me some Radiohead (on right now) and random old hip hop, and the two default bands on the play list are Arcade Fire and U2.
The six things I could never do without
My basketball
My nieces and nephews (and the rest of the family....)
The webernets
Great books and a comfortable chair
Old friends
New adventures
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to use mobile phones to change the world
Why I'm not disciplined enough to write that novel
How to get my family consolidated in the Bay Area
How to find more than 24 hours in a day
On a typical Friday night I am
Having a drink with friends somewhere in the Mission.
