My self-summary
I'm from Montreal. I lived in Chicago for the last 6 years. I like low key bars with pool tables. I like going to the gym and lifting heavy things, but I'm not the sort of narcissist who watches themselves do curls in front of the mirror for hours and hours. I was really into martial arts but unfortunately I don't have the time any more. I play guitar badly. I like concerts. I do a lot of nerdy things too. (I do study computer science after all). I take chemistry classes for fun. I read a lot. I like cooking. I especially like making sushi or indian food.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm making the transition from academia to the working world.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no idea. If we ever meet you should let me know.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Some bands I listen to include: Do Make Say Think, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Books, Battles, The Mars Volta, Arcade Fire, Talkdemonic, Portishead, Dirty Three, guitarists like Eric Mongrain or Kaki King or Preston Reed, vaguely electronic things like Mice Parade, Four Tet or Kashiwa Daisuke, unreservedly electronic things like Amon Tobin or Venitian Snares, classics like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin and some of The Beatles, remnants from my long-gone slightly gothic phase like Nine Inch Nails, Tool or A Perfect Circle, slightly embarrassing things like Cat Power or Ani Difranco (she's a good guitarist, shut up), and, uh, lots more that I can't remember off hand. Also all kinds of classical music when I'm studying or just in the mood for it.

I haven't read much fiction lately, but back in the day some authors whose work I enjoyed included: Vonnegut, Orwell, Flaubert, Dostoyevsky, Salinger, etc. Non-fiction-wise I go through a lot of phases. Last year I read Hitchens and Dawkins' books followed by four consecutive medical memoirs. Lately I've been reading a biology textbook and Feynman's memoirs. Before all that I read some math books with titles such as "Numerical Optimization" and "All of Statistics". And before that there were a bunch of history books like "The Zimmerman Telegram" or "The Twelve Caesars". Somewhere in there I read all of Steven Pinker's books.
The six things I could never do without
Bikes, mp3 players, the Internet, a gym, books, some 6th thing that's really cool and important and you would agree you could never do without.

You should message me if
If you've read this far you should send me a message and say hello. Women get far more mail than men on these sites, and it's a daunting and unappealing task to jump through hoops in the hope of standing out from a cacophony of douchebags and creeps.
