My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am at once musical, gregarious, thoughtful, and sensitive. I teach high school math, and have for nine years. I love the classroom, but I am leaving the classroom because I am burned out [Editorial note 8/31/14: I am not burned out. I wrote that two years ago and have finally come to update my profile]. I have given all I can for the moment, and need some time away. So, I am going to coach math teachers in Oakland Unified next year. I am super excited to get paid to think a little more. As a teacher you are not paid to think so much as to react. One ends up thinking on their own dime. So, I'm pleased. And yet, I'm nervous about missing the kids. I don't know if some sort of withdrawl is in my future. Probably. I'm sure I get so much more out of my interactions with the students than I am even aware of. [Editorial note 8/31/14: I have returned to teach Geometry at the same small charter high school I left two years ago. I am happy to be back in the classroom. And my vantage point from which I view education has changed a bit after two years of instructional coaching]. I am also a musician. I played drums in a band and have at one point of other played all of the following: guitar, bass, piano, synthesizer, sitar, oud, toy piano. [Editorial note 8/31/14: I have not picked up an instrument in some time an this makes me concerned-- music -making has been such a huge part of my life. Must. Pick up. Guitar.] I bought a tiny house and am putting money into fixing it up. It's a little craftsman in North Oakland. I used to live in North Oakland years ago, and am thrilled to be back. My landscaper says I need to walk around the neighborhood with a camera and take pictures of inspirational landscaping to give her an idea of what I want. Wanna go for a walk? It might be fun. [Editorial note 8/31/14: I remodeled my bathroom, and it turned out beautifully. Hex floor tile, subway wall tile, chrome 1940s-ish fixtures. The kitchen is next.]

I would be overjoyed to meet a strong-minded, independent woman, who likes to travel, who likes to think, who likes to play, and who likes to marvel at the wonder of the world. I would be overwhelmed to meet a woman who had a specific passion and mission in this life, and that if this woman shared that passion with me, I would become a greater person. I feel like I could provide in like kind with my own passions and interests. I get excited thinking about these prospects and then sad when I realize that not everyone is afforded love in this life, real love. [Editorial note 8/31/14: I still agree with this paragraph, full tilt.]
