I am fun-loving, thoughtful, and inquisitive.

My Self-Summary

I'm a student in my final year of a fine-art painting, ancient history and Japanese language major which I've loved doing. I've got pretty diverse and slightly weird interests. I can't walk into a bookshop without leaving with a lighter wallet, I enjoy having impassioned arguments with friends about random politics late into the night and laughing too much about jokes that aren't really funny. I like going out for a drink an a dance whenever possible, or staying in and watching films. I like finding new restaurants, and I like cooking stuff myself. I think I'm a pretty rounded person in my own way...

I'm originally from Scotland, where I lived until about 18 when I lived in Japan for a year. Since then I've lived in different parts of Australia; I like Sydney and Melbourne about equally so I try not to get drawn into arguments about which one is better. I can be pretty cynical and have a slightly dark sense of humour, but I'm pretty fluffy and idealistic deep-down.

What I’m doing with my life

Studying, working part time as a graphic designer. When not doing those I either hang out with friends or work on personal projects (painting, learning languages writing novels, the usual).

I’m really good at

Lots of things. Or at least I think I am...

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm pretty "straight-acting" so people are usually surprised to find out I'm gay. Not sure what else beyond that, I'll have to ask around.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I tend to read lots of non-fiction, but there are a few authors I keep coming back to, like Neil Gaiman, Umberto Eco and Ian Banks. I read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay recently and loved that. I love slightly weird sci-fi writers like Kim Newman and Robert Rankin, and given the history thing I actually really enjoy translations of ancient stuff, like the Iliad and the Golden Ass; I'm a pretty big comics fan too, Alan Moore is my favourite writer.

Some of my favourite movies: Mary Poppins, Star Wars, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hannah and her sisters, Jackie Brown, Princess Mononoke, El Topo, Kill Bill, I Heart Huckabees, Children of Men, The Incredibles

Music-wise: Nina Simone, David Bowie, Shiina Ringo & Tokyo Jihen, Blackalicious, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Sufjan Stevens, Air, Gotan Project, Bollywood dance tracks, Saul Williams, edIT, The Go! Team, Gorillaz, Roots Manuva, Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, The Idan Raichel Project

Food: I'm vegetarian, but I like pretty much everything; I lived in Japan for a bit so I love Japanese food, but it's hard to find places that do it well. Not so keen on Thai, but I don't mind a green curry now and then. I have an addiction to chocolate, but I'm working on it. I've been clean for about 20 hours now.

The six things I could never do without

The internet. Um.... Friends, is that a thing? I might come back to this one.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

God, really random stuff. Right now I'm thinking about the four essays I should be writing instead of doing this.

On a typical Friday night I am

The usual things 25 year olds get up to, drinking and dancing or else at home reading or watching movies.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I watched almost the whole series of Buffy the Vampire slayer last year. And I liked it.

You should message me if

You think I sound interesting and want to talk I guess...
