My self-summary
I am warm, talented and fun to be around; relatively well-educated with 3 Master's degrees from Russia and the States; at times infinitely funny and adventurous, at times pensive and self-reflective, but always interested in learning about what you are doing in the current chapter of your life.
What I’m doing with my life
Working; dabbling in creative writing as well as poetic translation; spending much time on Skype as my friends are scattered over the globe.
I’m really good at
* cooking
* writing, even though English is not my native language
* being a fun conversation partner
* remembering every detail from years gone by
The first things people usually notice about me
sea-green eyes...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food that has been prepared with care and skill. I like to read Russian poetry but I have not yet picked up a liking for American poetry, especially the rhymeless kind. "Anna Karenina", "Master and Margarita" would be favorite novels.
The six things I could never do without
You will see that I took this question fairly literally: most things on my list are, indeed, things:

dark rye bread from Germany, and a toaster for it;
dark rye crackers from Finland
Google docs - it saves my drafts
black tea with honey
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my life history (I have recently started dabbling in writing stories based on my life history, mixing humor with sadness and atheism with a touch of magic).
On a typical Friday night I am
Swimming in a warm water pool, while always being available for alternative kinds of fun!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I cannot carry a tune; it is a ***very big deal*** for me and I would much prefer to be able to sing. I am not "amusic" (http://www.nbcnews.com/health/cant-carry-tune-save-your-life-you-may-be-amusic-835123 describes what it is) in that I perceive/discern nuanced variety in tone just fine, and possibly even better than many folks, but I cannot ***produce*** the right melody by singing - I know in my mind how the melody should be produced, but cannot actually make my voice follow what my mind knows to be right. It is extremely unpleasant and embarrassing, especially in group settings in which people sing together. Also, I grew up in an extended family of professional musicians who ridiculed my inability to carry a tune when I was a child. I wish I could sing!
