I am a full-time beach bum. I make a fraction of what I made as an active-duty Naval Officer, but the free time more than makes up for it. I can go to my kids' school whenever I need/they need me to. I can focus on their lives while they are finishing school. I am down here in Florida because this is where the ex-wife-creature wanted to be and, being retired, I didn't have the ties to keep me up there in NE GA. So, I am down here letting the kids be my mission in life until they are done with school. Then, I figure they will go on with their adult lives and be too busy for me much anyway and I can get back to what 'I' want, which is living on a sailboat.

***edit***(04 Sep 2009) I decided, just the other day, that the sailboat dream is a selfish waste of my skills and abilities. Therefore, I am planning to return to school in Jan for my Master's to start teaching and possibly end up relocating to Thailand, once the kids are done with school and on with their successful adult lives.

I am a fixer by nature. It is something I am very thankful for and very anxious to use to do my primary goal, to better the world around me, especially outside my own selfish life bubble.

My taste in music and movies is equally eclectic. I cannot narrow my preferences to genres, it's too vague. For example, I love some of Harry Connick Jr.'s music, however, I really don't like jazz. I love some sappy, romantic movies, but not just because of the type of movie they are. I love some bang, bang, shoot 'em up movies, complete with the ridiculous happenstances and dialog. On the other hand, I like some very deep, thought-provoking movies that actually require you to pay attention. Music is very much the same. I love things from Outkast to Pantera to Sarah McLachlan to Alan Jackson and on and on. I just like what's good, basically. I don't want a whole album of crap for one or two good songs. I just want the two songs, without the label of 'fan'.

Sometimes people want someone who is just one way, others want someone who can play a different part depending on the situation. I have tattoos, yes, but they are all easily covered by a polo shirt and shorts, so I don’t have to be locked-in to one stereotype all the time, ie. No tattoos up my neck and piercings all over my face. I don’t want the people at my kids’ school to be too distracted by my appearance to listen to what I’m saying.

I entertained the idea, a while back, of ‘friends with benefits’, I even had an affair with someone, as ‘the other man’, but that is not me nor whom I wish to be. I really want to just be in love with one person for the rest of my life. I want the sitting and listening to the rain together, the morning breath, the hair bows every damn where, the taking care of each other when we’re sickly, the talking about what we are passionate about- individually or together, the sharing of moments and ‘inside jokes’, the sitting in silence and on and on and on.

Ok, let me make a list. I like lists.

What I Want:

- I would rather you didn’t describe yourself as sexy, sassy, beautiful, cute, crazy or any of the other clichés that ‘someone else’ should say about you.

- I could really dig it if you could spell (spell checkers have been around for many moons now) and write grammatically correct or have a thick accent to excuse yourself.

- slender to average(truly) Ideally, I want someone slender, like me. This doesn’t mean they work out a lot. Healthy is nice, athletic is nice, but someone like me will work. I have been blessed with this awesome metabolism that allows me to eat whatever I want without working out in a couple years and remain slender, tone even.

- between 30 and 50, but mature at whatever age.

- has kids and doesn’t want more.

- loves life and is enjoying this life experience.

- a cross between Ann Coulter, including the conservative Republican mindset and Zooey Deschanel, including the charming personality and Janeane Garofolo, including the dry wit and intellect.

- the same weird-ass eclectic taste in movies from Thinking action movies, such as Fight Club and Terminator to Mindless Entertainment action movies, such as Snatch and From Dusk Til Dawn to Thinking and extreme movies, such as Memento and American History X to Kid movies, such as Toy Story and Shrek to Funny movies, such as Elf and Borat to Off-the-Wall movies, such as Brotherhood of the Wolf and the 13th Warrior to Sappy Romantic movies, such as Must Love Dogs and P.S. I Love You.

- not necessarily the same eclectic taste in music as me, but definitely must have an appreciation.

I realize I am not a frickin model myself. I have faults and whomever I meet has faults. I just want someone who accepts theirs as I have mine and seeks betterment.

***Important Disclaimer***: All of these preferences are ideals, but by no means prerequisites. Everything is flexible and adjustable to my primary goal of sharing this awesome life experience with someone compatible, in more ways than just appearance, meaning, if someone is adorable and smart and funny then a few extra pounds or being more than 5-10 years older than me is definitely not going to deter me and preclude entertaining the possibility of the love and affection blossoming, which is my primary concern.

Food: ok, my favorite is food that someone else makes. Beyond that, I love most of it, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Thai, a carrot, a peanut butter sammidge, BBQ... There is really only one food I was not fond of thus far. I tried Moose Ka-ka in Greece and I'd rather not again.

Affection.

Love.
The ability to fix or make better.
My iPod ;-).
Transportation to allow random spontaneous road trips.
