My self-summary
Hey all! My name is Nate. My goal here is to meet some interesting and stimulating new people. If you share a similar goal, please say hi!

Fyi, cute, awkward, and extremely smart guys make me melt like nothing else.
What I’m doing with my life
I just graduated from Colorado College with a major in biochemistry, and am now working in a lab at CU, Boulder. I have played the viola for twelve years, love to dabble with the piano when I really need to wind down, and like bellowing along with various show tunes. Often nowadays you'll find me at the local rock wall climbing and, hopefully, not dying!

Beyond that, I am sort of drifting through my existence, absorbing as much of it as I can and processing it in a somewhat directionless fashion. My ultimate goal is to find some sense of purpose: what I want to *do* with my life. I probably will end up just having to pick one :p
I’m really good at
I do well in school, and am pretty good with music.

I also like to think that I can write and speak decently, or at least that I have interesting things to say sometimes.

Finally, I'm a pretty scientifically-minded person, so don't get too miffed if I start criticizing news articles and public attitudes for not having very good evidence to justify their claims.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am really quiet until someone mentions something I know enough about to comment on. Then I'm loud. What that "something" might be... well, that's a roll of the dice, really....
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite films: The Hours, The World's End, and Spirited Away.

Favorite (so, basically, recently read and pretty great) books: Stand on Zanzibar, Contact, Anathem, Palimpsest, and--completely and utterly--Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang. Finally, Dhalgren by Samuel Delaney has completely reformed my perspective on what "good literature" looks like.

After that, everything sort of dissolves into a wild blur of excited assertions about why I think that (x) is so fantastic. So rather than try to force too much of a structure to my tastes, I will also mention I enjoy The Wheel of Time, A Song of Ice and Fire, Muse, Mumford and Sons, The United States of Tara, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and all things Chinese food.

I am currently trying to make my way through my friend's highly-annotated copy of House of Leaves.
The six things I could never do without
Video games. They're refreshing, especially given I grew up playing them, thinking about them, and more or less living them. That said, I have some very strong opinions about the games I like and dislike. If you know nothing about games, I probably dislike the ones you've heard of.

Music. As "an inward flame which burns, torments the composer spite of himself... with expressions lively, natural, and which touch the heart, with a harmony pure, affecting, majestic, which strengthens and adorns the air". I quote Rosseau because my own language could never do justice to the power it has over me.

An affordable climbing wall.

Shelter. I hate the cold. But I love snowboarding!

Books. Books are my intellectual nourishment, giving me new worlds to explore and ideas to process. All the best video games also do that, too, so in a way the two should probably be lumped under a larger category called "art" (where films, paintings, music, theatre, and everything in between should also be).

People! There is nothing else I could name that is anywhere near as fascinating, frustrating, repulsive, exciting, adorable, and generally interesting as other people.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Often I am meditating on whatever academic or political issue I've been reading or talking about recently. I also enjoy people watching, and wondering about what others might be thinking and why.
On a typical Friday night I am
If I am not out with friends at a play, or party, or whatever else, I will probably be reading, playing a game, or eating chocolate.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like guys
  • Ages 18–28
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
I love meeting new people and talking about... whatever! So go ahead and message me if you want. I'm pretty open to whatever comes my way.

I would very much like to meet someone who is interested in spending the time to get to know someone else, perhaps with the goal of ultimately entering a committed relationship.
