Its nearly impossible find tall, relatively young women, who happen to be good dancers in Orange County. Im looking for someone within the age range of 21 to 26 roughly, with experience in dance, martial arts, or some other exercise which requires good body mechanics. Additionally, because I am 64, I prefer if youre at least 57, although if you are an exceptional dancer, it can transcend height issues. Bonus points if you happen to have danced ballet since you were a child, although modern and jazz are good too. In a year or less, Id like to start performing with the woman who might be able to meet my criterion. While this could become romantic, I'm more than willing to entertain something completely platonic. I also teach couples and individuals private lessons for a relatively low price ($30/hr, although the woman who would be my partner would be learning for free), and I run a free practice on Sundays. I have a rather unique origin which led me to tango. After 10 years of saxophone, and years of martial arts, including Jeet Kun Do, and Tai Chi, I has taken his understanding of body mechanics and put it into the realm of tango.
I spent 2 weeks in Buenos Aires in December. Along with attending practices and dances, I studied salon and "Nuevo" tango intensively in private and group classes with a variety of Argentine masters. This added a depth of fundamental concepts, and fun ideas to share. With my experience of Argentina and that of different national festivals, it has become apparent that a place to practice and share the foundations of tango would be a welcome addition to Orange County.
While learning in St. Louis and attending workshops around the US, I was introduced to Milonguero style, the traditional style of tango danced in the milongas (dance parties) in Argentina. With an emphasis on respect and connections with the music, one's partner, the ground, and the crowd, I hope to share a love for the fundamental, yet exquisitely important aspects of this captivating branch of tango. Without these connections, tango has no substance. When one can learn to connect, many other doors of expression and freedom can open.
I am new, friendly, and curious
