I am warm and fuzzy, absent-minded, and avoidant.

My Self-Summary

"I hail from the explosive jetsam of a multitude of high-mass stars that died more than 5 billion years ago." -Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Astrophysical smartassery aside, I'm an easy-going, low maintenance kind of guy, for the most part.

[Stop the profile. Ok, I know what you're thinking. "Yet another guy who describes himself as easy-going. Next!" Even so, my easy-going nature is actually one of the more noticeable aspects of my personality. On those rare occasions when I appear agitated or annoyed, people seem genuinely shocked that I would ever display such strong emotion. Once, someone even described me as "zen-like". Honestly, I don't find very much in my day to day life to get that worked up about. I save my passion for things that are worth it. And now, back to the profile...]

I do have very strong personal values, however, and will stick to those values come hell or high water. I am fiercely loyal, highly moral and quietly stubborn. You've been warned.

If you want to get a better idea of what I'm like and are too shy to ask (I understand, I'm shy too) check out the tests I've taken and use the compare page.

(In case you're wondering, the nickname "nervous_subject" comes from The Sims 2.)

What I’m doing with my life

Working in retail and enjoying it, surprisingly enough. Working on a BA in liberal studies at SJSU and contemplating a master's in library science. Feeding my photography habit, if I can ever find the time anymore.

I’m really good at

Picking up new and interesting bits of information, and discovering connections between concepts that may not be obvious.

The first things people usually notice about me

Physically? You tell me. I hope that they notice that I try to be polite and friendly (even if I can be a little snarky at times.)

I've recently received totally random complements on my eyes, my beard and my smile, from three different women, respectively. I'm just a little weirded out that they were all old enough to be my grandmothers.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a) My current favorite authors are Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, though I often mix it up with non-fiction. Currently, I'm in the middle of Harry Potter. (Shh! Don't spoil it!) Next on the pile are Quantico, by Greg Bear, and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, by Phillip K. Dick.

(b) Too many to list, but I used to be a Star Wars freak before Lucas ruined it for me. Right now, I'd say Casablanca is near the top of the list. No kidding. For my birthday I went and saw The Simpsons Movie, which was awesome.

(c) A little of this and a little of that. I lean more towards rock than anything else and mostly listen to whatever's on the radio, which happens to be KFOG these days, when I'm not listening to NPR.

(d) I'm picky. Fruit and I have never been friends. I don't like weird textures or discovering nuts in things. I especially don't like anything with a strong bitter flavor, unless it can be sweetened. Otherwise I like most anything. ;)

The six things I could never do without

Ok, we all know they don't mean that which is physically necessary for survival, though it might be nice if they would specify. Most of this stuff I can and have lived without for short periods, but I wouldn't want to give them up forever.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Pick up the latest issues of Biblical Archaeology Review, Scientific American and Newsweek, and you might get a partial glimpse. Not being conceited, I'm just sayin'. In fact, it would be nice if I could shut my damn brain off sometimes.

BTW, there is a good reason why I'm very serious about my agnosticism.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home. Yes, I really am that exciting.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Let me get to know you first.

You should message me if

I'm just looking for a nice person, really...someone who can bring me out of my shell. I've got a thing for the girl-next-door type: friendly, smiles a lot, easy to talk to, kind to small animals, still thinks the word "party" is a noun, that kind of thing. Bonus points for anyone who is into car camping or backpacking.
