lol at ignorant people.

I've noticed a trend on this website, and I haven't even been part of it all that long. Ignorant people, in trying to impress other, equally ignorant people, band together. It's totally outrageous. Apparently, in order to be accepted, you must be exactly like everyone else.

I am a fairly intelligent 19 year old girl, who has plenty more things to learn in her life... but at the very least, I know where I stand on a few issues in our society today. Not only can I very plainly state that, but I can also tell you that I am NOT going to hide any bit of it for fear of what anyone else thinks of me.

First and foremost, I believe that EVERY person is allowed to have their own opinion, and, certainly, voice it any way they choose to. I believe there is a difference between the word "pedophile" and the words "child molester," "child rapist," and "sexual predator." I believe that there is also a difference between "sex offender" and "child molester," "child rapist," and "sexual preadtor."

I, of my own volition, signed and fully support ReformSexOffenderLaws.com's petition. I believe a majority of sex offender laws should at the very least be reformed. When there are these blanket laws, they CANNOT always be right. (Take, for example, the case of the 19 year old who was accused of raping his 15 year old girlfriend. He is permanently on the sex offender registry, despite the fact that the two of them married and now have three kids. Is that fair?) And, if reform is too much to ask, then I believe that for the sake of being fair, at least there should be public registries created for drunk drivers, because they're about as much of a danger to society.

I STRONGLY oppose the organization Perverted Justice, and organizations like it, who seek to ruin peoples lives rather than truly keep children safe. I believe the show "To Catch A Predator" is a sick reality TV show, with serious ethics issues, that caters to a very sick generation. I've written one research paper on the subject, so far.

So what does that make me? To be honest, I really could not care less. If you want to be my friend, go right ahead. If you don't, that's perfectly fine too.

Default user image Troublemaker.

No really, I liked it.

I think part of the whole "banding together" bit arises as a symptom of the kind of website this is: a dating site. So, like, you've got a majority of people who for any variety of reasons, have either been disqualified from, or not yet qualified for a "relationship."

Society still praises "relationship" (that kind) muchly. So when you haven't made the grade yet, or have failed a grade or two, and worse, can't seem to make or remake that grade without turning to an Internet dating site, esteem suffers.

Banding together, then, chiming in (with identical thoughts, ala, "I'm with"-style), etc., all becomes kind of a mutual admiration society. This serves the purpose on a site like this of not only providing a means of (would-be) interaction, often with the opposite sex, while not having to really really interact the hard way. Additionally, it offers the side benefit of being able to feel or even say, "hey at least I'm 'with' someone, right?!"

I'm not saying the situation is rife, here, because it's not. I just think it is part of the paradigm.

In short, yanno, I'm with ya!

And kudos to you... you have your own opinion, back it up and follow it up - that's erm, three things more than most people, especially on what a lot of people seem to see as a 'for or against' controversial subject. World would be a boring and hopeless place if we all accepted the status quo. But with the above and you on this site... or more specifically the forum, it's easier to block em out on the rest ;)

An image of Certainteed since you're all of legal age, why not just go be totally icky WITHOUT waking the neighbors. k?

Default user image Ewwwww, iccckkkyyyyy. Setta Ten! (Mr. Woodcock reference) The newsflash is that the neighbors, apparently, are not sleeping, since it does take at least a click to arrive at anyplace where someone is being (grow up) icky.

An image of nessababy7 there's nothing icky in talking about things i believe in. why should i have to hide what i believe? i'm opening it for discussion with adults, so i'm not really doing anything wrong or bad. if you don't like it, or find it icky, there is a setting you can use to make it so that you do not have to see any of my future posts. and, jez, thanks. it's nice to know there really are people who can appreciate those traits (having an opinion, backing it up, and standing by it) even if they don't necessarily agree with the subject of the opinion. (which, i'm not saying you do or don't)

An image of Teiq I like that. On the surface, I want all rape to be a capitol offense, but then you get a case like the one you mentioned, or those really sick ones where, frankly, the girl makes it up. (And that very quickly throws a monkey wrench into the whole system for everyone) I love the sex offender registry, when it works and hate it when it really messes with a good person's life. Not sure of that's hyppocritical or just conflicted. Anyways you clearly know more about this subject than I do, but I think I agree with you. :-) Happy world-changing! hey, do they hand out a Nobel Prize for Social and Legal reforms? I'll keep an eye out for you in the lists. lol
