I'm an easygoing, occasionally fun/funny, frequently self-deprecating graduate student at the University of Iowa. I'm relatively shy at first, but I get along with most people I meet. Although I am working on a degree in the sciences, I do not often operate with a cold and calculated logic. I often have an overabundance of emotions and I tend to be most interested in those people with an artistic streak...or a slight mental instability (though they usually go hand-in-hand).

I am currently in the 3rd year of a PhD program in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa. I get to study the most fascinating topic imaginable: the brain and how it relates to human behavior. During my undergrad I was originally an Education major, and my ultimate goal is still to end up teaching/doing research at a university.

A million years ago I was very involved in singing, music, and theatre. Although I have fallen out of these areas in recent years, I still have a fairly decent voice. I've also been told by numerous people that I am an excellent listener, for whatever it's worth.

I'd like to think my smile is the first thing people notice as far as appearance goes. And hopefully that I am easy to get along with.

I have far too many favorite movies to mention them all. My all time favorites include Amelie, City of God, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

I fully admit I watch far too much television. Generally comedies like 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Futurama, Archer, or embarrassing reality shows like Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway, or RuPaul's Drag Race.

I like most music, but especially alt-folk, indie folk-pop, something along those lines. Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes, Beirut, Regina Spektor, and Rufus Wainwright are a few of my favorite artists.

I don't get to read nearly as much as I would like, but I tend to like fiction. I'm a huge nerd with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, as well as The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I also love Hemingway and Bukowski.

I will eat virtually any type of food. Seafood/sushi tends to be my favorite, but I am an equal opportunity eater.

- 10pm texts from my concerned mother because I haven't talked to her yet that day (I'm a momma's boy)
- Puppies
- Bananas (they're the only thing I feel like eating for breakfast in the morning)
- Sporcle

When and what my next meal will be. Practicing conversations I wish I would have with people. Whether I'm a real person or not.

Out with friends in downtown Iowa City or Cedar Rapids, hopefully dancing somewhere.

I do not care for chocolate, or ice cream, or sweets in general. I don't dislike these things, I just wouldn't be upset if I was never allowed to eat them again.

You want to. I don't have nearly as many gay friends in the area as I would like. I think I'm easy to talk to, and I love to get to know people.
