My username is a slightly mangled transliteration of "it is me"
from
Sumerian.
No, I don't *yet* speak/read/write Sumerian. Working on it. Slowly.
If your first reaction to the notion of speaking Sumerian was
"What? No one alive knows how to speak Sumerian!" Then you and I
might get along. If you accept my response of, "So?" then we have
even better chances.
If you are waiting for the
pun between "summary" and "Sumerian" then we
will DEFINITELY get along, as long as you don't also eat babies or
something. Baby carrots OK.
Note: It is OK if you were not waiting for the pun or if you know
nothing about Sumerian.
So, yeah. Lessee... Label time?
Vegetarian, but I usually don't
preach about it, unless you ask me to.
Freedom-leaning liberal, ditto.
Software engineer
by trade and somewhat by training. "Real"
engineer by schooling. (To this point)
amateur writer.
Polyamorous. Bi-ish*. Social
dancer. Questioning
teetotaler.
Podcaster.
Married, in a
polyfidelitous V (for linkin'
purposes:
polyfi
and
polyfidelity).
I am here for friends. Really. Not kidding on that one.
I have a
funball
pit.
*: "Bi-ish" means that I am not a 0 on Kinsey. More than that, hard
to say at this point.
winkyank: If you
wink at me, I will interpret it as "please make up a pun about my
profile." UPDATE: I've turned winks off. I am trying to limit the
amount of time I spend on here, and I don't get notified about
winks, which means I have to log in all the time to see if anyone
has winked. The offer is still open, just send me an email that
says "wink" or something :)
Lots of things.
One of the things that I'm doing is running a podcast called
"
Polytics." Its
about a fictional community of about thirty people in the pacific
northwest who live on 40 acres of land outside of the city. It is
basically a sex-positive poly pagan hippie soap opera. In addition
to running things, I also play the character Bernie, who has a fun
profile on OKC:
bernie_kanawi. Feel free to talk to
him, but please indicate [perhaps, e.g., in "out-of-character"
brackets] that you are aware that he is fictional, because my first
response will otherwise be to break character and ensure you know
that he is.
I have a software engineering job, doing my best to avoid being a
stereotype about it, mostly.
I am interested in
intentional community as a
long term goal, and we've got a start of it with a house that can
fit more than just my wife and I and our hypothetical kids.
For awhile, it was probably my
crazy beard. Now that it's gone...
maybe my
aloha
shirt (known to mainlanders as a
Hawaiian shirt)... I don't wear
them all the time, but I definitely wear them more often than the
typical Seattlite.
I used to love making lists for questions like these, but I don't
anymore.
I like all kinds of music. Seriously. Not in that "everything but
rap" or "everything but country" or whatever. John Cage is the bomb
even though he secretly wanted to be a botanist. Toby Keith and
Eminem are total asshats but play some catchy tunes. I like things
that I can dance to or that I can play in the background while I
write (words or code).
I usually have at least one book that I am reading at any given
time, but I realized recently that I don't read quite enough to
have books that I loved two years ago but am embarrassed of now,
unlike some people that I know. As of this writing, I am reading
"
Name of the
Rose" after being recommended it because I liked "
Anathem." I read mostly
genre fiction. UPDATE: I've read a number of books since I wrote
that; currently I'm enjoying "
MultiReal."
I am a pretty picky eater. Don't take it personally. Sounds like a
funny thing to say, doesn't it? Why would someone take it
personally that I was a picky eater? And yet... people do. I love
to cook, probably partially because of that. I like many spices,
but I'm not a huge fan of spicy. Can't abide dill, though. Except
for pickles. Mmm, pickles. Cheese-wise, I like me a good cheddar,
unless it's melted. I'll eat eggs if they are in something else,
but omelets are a no-go. I can go on like this for hours, but I
won't.
More importantly, you could ask, what are your favorite...
Games:
Dominion
(the card game from
Rio Grande Games). I <3 the
paraphernalia from Seaside even though it is kitschy and not
totally needed. I sort of want to make my own paraphernalia-linked
cards, now, to add to my favorite personal mod: "Illusionist"
(Costs 5, acts like any of the 4-or-less action cards available,
but only for their actions (i.e. no reactions or durations or
treasure or land). Agricola is fun, too.
Blank white cards is
awesomeness, although I have yet to play a debauchery-focused
version, which I am assured is even better; I have my doubts, but
we shall see. I helped write and write about Perl
Nomic, although I like
python more than perl and
blank white cards more than nomic. I have recently discovered
Race for
the Galaxy, which is lots of fun but still hasn't bumped
Dominion for the number one spot.
Dances: I have recently discovered
blues dancing. OMG awesomeness. I
have a background in
waltz and such, and although I've been
exposed to
salsa,
swing,
tango, etc., nothing has felt
quite the same as blues dancing. Tuesday nights at
Waids is a blast. I've been meaning
to make it to the Abby at some point, but I record on Wednesdays,
so I haven't made it yet; soon, hopefully!
Up to something.
On a typical Sunday afternoon, I hope to be, in the future, hosting
a
game day / open
house. I like having people around, and getting lots of folks
together for games and chillage is relaxing and fun for me. So,
yeah. If you like board games or just hanging out, drop me a line,
we can meet 1:1 for coffee/juice/whatever to mutually make sure we
are not crazy, and then come on by!
You've got interesting things going on or would like to. (Does that
sound like a pickup line? It isn't meant to.)
You have questions about anything I wrote here.
As I noted in my hijacked Friday night box, I will want to meet up
with you to chat before I bring you to any group stuff. To be
clear: this is not a date. I really am looking for friends. I'm not
saying that I'm looking for friends and then using that as cover to
get into your pants. It's OK if you *want* to get into my pants,
but please don't use this as an excuse to try to do so; I won't
either, so it all works out :)
