I have a fairly easy-going (my sister says 'laid-back') attitude to life. Long, chatty, laugh-filled lunches are a great pleasure, particularly at a good pub. I read slowly (but thoroughly), and adore expanding my knowledge. I am particularly curious about the natural world and love documentaries, and yet rarely manage to answer more than half a dozen questions on University Challenge. I am an amateur astronomer.

I play tennis and go running to keep fit, and also like walking in the countryside.

Also being someone you can rely on, it seems. I have discovered over the years that my friends and relatives turn to me if they suddenly need a big favour - which is nice!

I can also procrastinate at an international level. Although that might not be good thing.

I smile a lot, apparently!

Books: Leave it to Psmith (and other P.G. Wodehouse novels), The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Dick Francis novels.

Movies: Back to the Future, The Shawshank Redemption, Wonder Boys, Raiders of the Lost Ark (and many other Spielberg movies), The Guard, Moonrise Kingdom (and pretty much every other Wes Anderson movie), The Social Network (David Fincher is good too), Blade Runner, When Harry Met Sally (one of the few really good rom-coms), just about every Pixar movie, and many others.

TV: I don't watch a huge amount of telly but I love The West Wing, Northern Exposure, Due South, The X-Files, science and nature documentaries (David Attenborough is a legend). Also like a bit of comedy like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Monty Python and nearly everything they show on Dave.

Music: a fairly broad range, with a fondness for lots of 60's, 70's and 80's pop music like The Beatles, The Kinks, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits. Also like Coldplay, Elliott Smith and Chicane, and orchestral music including many Hollywood movie scores from composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Thomas Newman. Not into rap, techno, etc.

Games: I enjoy occasionally making a fool of myself in charades, and playing board games like Articulate and Scrabble. Also PC games like Half-Life, Age of Empires and The Elder Scrolls.

Food: scrambled eggs with roast bacon and tomatoes for breakfast (I do this pretty well), and although I don't eat pasta much spaghetti carbonara is a nice treat. More generally - Indian, Thai, Mexican and the occasional Italian.

This could take some serious thought...

Tea! I couldn't live without tea. But that's about it.
