My self-summary
I'm a bearded and bespectacled man who, among other things, enjoys staying up late, sleeping in, good food (eating and cooking), reading a book, thinking, weather changes, music (making and listening), tea, coffee, beer, snuff (tobacco, not movies) and interacting with thinking people.

I have a daughter (six years old now) living with me every other week. Don't tell me I didn't warn you...

I can be quite shy, so if I looked at your profile but didn't send you a message, chances are you're so awe-inspiring I lost my nerve. Give me a few days to regain my composure or send me a message yourself.
What I’m doing with my life
One of my main goals in life is being able to support myself and my loved ones doing something interesting but with as few consequences for peoples real lives as possible. I've come to the conclusion that this would probably have to be something academic, but exactly what remains to be seen... While I plan for this I teach music, study a bit, raise my kid and whatnot.
I’m really good at
Stating things in a way that make them seem like established facts when they are really little more than conjecture.

Making up passable food from what I (or someone else) happen to have at home.

When I have a hangover I can usually sing a Gb in the contra octave.

I make a mean apple pie.

I can sleep through almost any disturbance and almost anywhere. I'm like Sleeping Beauty (only not as beautiful), the only way to wake me is with a true love's kiss... (omg, did I really write that?)
The first things people usually notice about me
...is probably that I'm at least five minutes late.

Also, I sometimes sing a bit more prominently than socially accepted while walking down the street.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't know about you, but I never actually read all the reeeeally long lists I find under this heading on other profiles. So, I'm trying a new thing here. (Updated 2011-09-28)

–The last book I enjoyed reading:
Jackendoff, Ray (2012). A User's Guide to Thought and Meaning. Cambridge (Mass.): Oxford University Press.

–The last movie/tv-show I enjoyed watching:
Kiki's Delivery Service (Majo no takkyûbin) (1989).

–Most played piece of music (according to iTunes):
Dvořák: Symphony #7 In D Minor, Op. 70 - 1. Allegro Maestroso, played by London Philharmonic Orchestra.

–Last time I cooked something and was really pleased with the result i made:
Strawberry sorbet.
The six things I could never do without
If I already have the bare necessities: An interesting book, a musical instrument capable of producing more than four notes simultaneously, tea-making utensils (including tea), somewhere to hide from the world, writing utensils, my glasses.

No, friends and family aren't things.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Among other things:

If the subdominant and its parallel really exists.

Why Achilles will overtake the tortoise.

If you can think the same thoughts as someone else without having access to the same words and/or concepts.

How people eating in public (e.g. on the tram) vividly illustrates our ape ancestry.

How to get that annoying tune out of my head.

Is there a common denominator between all things we call "music"?

How to get into grad school without selling my soul to the postmodernists, and how to finance it.

If I should work as a mailman instead.

What the relationship between intuition and reasoning is.

What time it is (and what time is).

What causes that sense of having forgotten something really important.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
...is that I'm too much of a coward to write something both interesting and true here.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–34
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, long-term dating, activity partners, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
...you think it will make the world a slightly better place.
