I am quirky, friendly, and creative.
My Self-Summary
I'm a Chicago-transplant and recent college graduate. I just
started a job at the Harvard Graduate School of Education a couple
months ago working for a professor doing research and
administrative tasks. I'm officially a "program assistant," it is
rather ambiguous--mostly I just whatever my prof wants.
I'm a bit of a science nerd, but I'm also crafty--I make jewelry
and am teaching myself to knit. I've always loved science, my
degree is in biology and a science studies program, and I'm
interested in someday going into some sort of science
education--teaching, museum studies, curriculum development,
etc...
I try not to annoy my roommates with my ridiculous singing antics,
but I like to think that it is part of my unique charm along with
my ability to fix things and clean things. I used to work in the
theater, mostly doing stage makeup and scenic painting, but also
stage managing and a little performing--both theater and
dance.
I'm also really bad at describing myself, so if you want to know
more about me, ask.
What I’m doing with my life
I just moved to Somerville a couple months ago and I'm settling
into the area and just started a new job. Before that, I spent a
lot of my time job hunting and exploring Boston, trying to furnish
my apartment, feed myself non-instant food, and find some office
appropriate clothing.
I'm still working on the non-instant food effort and figuring out
how to be a grown-up. I recently discovered that I can't really
sleep in on the weekends anymore, but I suppose that gives me more
time to figure out my life.
I'm also on an expedition to figure out what types of beer I
actually like, or rather what types I like better than others. This
tends to result in the buying of many weird beers and then being
entertained by the outcome.
I’m really good at
speed reading, making chocolate chip cookies, carrying multiple
plates, finding creative solutions to problems, trivia
The first things people usually notice about me
I suppose it depends on who is doing the noticing.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
In general I'm really horrible at picking favorites. I have some
old standbys that I'll fall back on for comfort or if I'm bored,
but I really like trying new things and am pretty open to just
about anything.
I love a good scifi novel--Ender's Game is one of those old
standbys, I can pick up just about any page in it or most of the
others in the series and know what is happening in the book. I'll
read just about anything from trashy novels to classics to
non-fiction.
When it comes to movies, I'm a sucker for cheesy romantic comedies
and movies where things blow up, but I appreciate a well written
film as well. I'll watch whatever, but if you make me watch horror
movies be prepared to face complaints about the nightmares my
overactive imagination provides.
I'll try anything once when it comes to music and if it doesn't
make my ears bleed, I'll listen to it again. I really don't have a
favorite song, though I'll rotate what I'm listening to the most
depending on my mood. I pick up tunes and song lyrics pretty
quickly and have way too much space in my head filled with song
lyrics.
I love to cook and keep trying new things, but my favorite food is
probably chocolate. Any variation, though I'm particularly fond of
dark chocolate. And while I like trying new things I can also
happily eat the same thing day after day if it is something I
like.
I'm not actually as indecisive as this probably makes me sound; I
just try to keep an open mind about most things.
The six things I could never do without
good books, music, chocolate, a nice set of tools--or at least a
good hammer, duct tape, and stupid science jokes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
everything. I have a pretty active imagination and it seems like I
always have something whirring in my brain.
Right now I'm spending a lot of time thinking about what I want to
do with my life. I'm at this point where I can really go off and do
something different and I'm seeing where those thoughts take me.
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with friends--watching a movie, just relaxing, playing
board games, cooking, drinking, laughing--or curling up with a good
book or catching up on missed tv.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm a bit of a dork, if it isn't already apparent, and I'm happy
that way. I'm perfectly able to have a normal conversation and have
quite good interpersonal skills, but I might end up telling you
about why dolphins are totally smart or some gruesome details about
how they used to treat infectious diseases...
You should message me if
something in my profile piqued your curiosity; you are looking for
someone to just hang out with or go on an adventure with; you don't
take yourself too seriously and are willing to laugh at
yourself...or if you just want to learn more about me.
Also, if I haven't responded in a timely fashion it isn't
necessarily that I'm not interested...I just stare at a computer
screen for eight hours a day at work and I'm not always up for
staring at a computer screen once I get home for more than a few
seconds at a time. But I promise that I will eventually respond; no
promises on coherency or content, but I'm trying to be better about
being prompt.
