My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I was born into an itinerant household (which sounds so much more exotic than saying I was an Air Force brat) and have spent time in 37 states and 14 countries. Travel is broadening, though I regret to say I've seen too much of, and occasionally been, the ugly American. I spent most of my "Wonder years" in Kansas, attended college in Ohio, and grad school in Georgia, where I've lived ever since. My significant other and I have been together for many years and plan for many more. That said, I still flirt and enjoy the company of others, all with m'lady's consent.

I am amused, open, and reasonably bright
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
After many years as the corporate IT wonk, I formed my own company and am still in start-up mode. I am also a compulsive volunteer, active in a variety of social, charitable, and political causes. I don't see anything special about myself, but do seem to get tapped for leadership roles more often than chance would suggest. Perhaps I'm just too stupid to say no!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I excel at wasting time, but also am reasonably capable dealing with computers, fixing anything broken at the homestead, remembering jokes, and using big words. I'm also really good at recognizing all the stuff I don't know, which keeps me humble and self-depricating.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
People notice just what a stud-muffin I am. Oh wait, this ISN'T fantasy? In that case, I have no idea. They might notice that I'm probably late because my day is over-scheduled.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books -- Techno-thrillers by Tom Clancy, Robin Cook, or Michael Crichton; alternative history (Harry Turtledove); a series of whodunnits by Lindsay Davis where the protagonist is an Imperial Informer in ancient Rome, c. 72 A.D. (think Sam Spade in a toga); Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis; and The Cuckoo's Egg by Clifford Stoll; Stainless Steel Rat books; and anything by Bill Bryson, Isaac Asimov, Piers Anthony, Douglas Adams or Phillip K. Dick.

Movies -- typical guy stuff where things blow up, but was also quite fond of Avatar, Secondhand Lions, Raising Arizona, Shawshank Redemption, Harry Potter (all to date), and Nick Parks animation. The earliest movie I was infatuated with was 2001: A Space Odyssey and that hasn't faded much.

Music -- I listen to most anything, but haven't developed an appreciation for rap or heavy metal. With about 1100 discs in the collection, I cover a LOT of territory, but it's heaviest in folk-pop, new age, alt-rock, Renaissance and Baroque, with an embarassingly large selection of novelty tunes. (go Weird Al!) Favorite artists include REM, Barenaked Ladies, Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, Decemberists, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, J.S. Bach, Cindy Alexander, October Project, and Grey Eye Glances.

Foods (and drinks) with character. I'm an equal opportunity lush, but I like thick, heavy beer - the kind that, if the glass breaks, I still have time to finish it before it loses the shape of its container; rich wines, good scotch, and 'Tennessee sippin' tequila will keep me hydrated. Feed me with a medium-rare steak, garbage burger, any Mexican food, or something smothered in garlic. One of two things my daddy taught me is "there ain't no bad groceries" and I've taken it to heart.... a few more laps of the pool will keep me from taking it to stomach!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
water (enough to drink and play in), friends, my tunes -- mostly distilled to digital files for portability, allergy drugs, a fast Internet connection, and whatever's important to you.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
getting my business running smoothly, Playing at the lake, improving my running times (5K to marathon distance--I recently qualified for and ran Boston!), and never-ending home improvement projects.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At the pool with an adult beverage in hand or finishing up the paperwork that clutters my desk. In colder months, I'm probably watching a movie or playing with my latest gadget.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have very few secrets, but my on-line persona seems to be much less reserved than I am.
