I am perpetually curious, usually friendly, and rarely speechless.

My Self-Summary

i like: reading, kids, reading with kids, cooking, making things, destroying said things, boggle. also scrabble. looking up etymological mysteries in the oed. npr.

i read a lot. i cook/bake. i bike. i read some more. i bike some more. i wish i could do both at the same time. i did two triathlons this summer but i swear i'm not sporty.

i love new york but i kind of miss the quiet of new haven sometimes.

i like inadvertent absurdism.
i don't like any incarnation of instant messenger.

What I’m doing with my life

i am an editrix for kids.

The first things people usually notice about me

my hair. it's everywhere.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

i'm always reading great books. favorites include: sometimes a great notion, the words, dear genius, his dark materials, to kill a mockingbird, catch-22, huckleberry finn, a wrinkle in time, war & peace, kavalier & clay, maus, wicked, the dark is rising, white teeth, anything by shirley jackson, anything by diana wynne jones. also nabokov, faulkner, and rushdie when i'm feeling all literary. i used to like john barth but now he drives me crazy. richard feynman's memoirs. watchmen. harry potter. margaret atwood. gerald durrell. douglas adams. neil gaiman and terry pratchett (though they're better separately).

tv: twin peaks, firefly, freaks & geeks, buffy. currently madly in love with battlestar galactica. i sort of shamefully love desperate housewives and law & order svu. ten or fifteen years ago i would have said zorro, get smart, i love lucy, and the dick van dyke show. budding obsessions include mad men, house, true blood, dollhouse. i don't like flipping channels but i love running through an entire season of something from netflix.

music is easier in person. and yes, i like food.

The six things I could never do without

my bike, whatever i'm reading at the moment, a dictionary, bad puns, good food, old friends

You should message me if

you can spell. you like bikes. you like books. you like to talk about bikes and books (and will bear with my lack of knowledge about the former and babbling about the latter).

you can tell me something i don't know.

you won't tell me you've read something you haven't but you will tell me to read something i haven't.
