My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Originally, I hail from the great white north, where I rode polar bears. My trusty steed was named Lawrence, after the mighty St. Lawrence River. I've been an American for the last six years though. My politics still tend to run left of center.

I am a nerdy, nerdy human being. There is nothing I love more than enthusiasm. Tell me about what you love. People who lack passions are boring.

I'm looking for someone that I enjoy spending time with, with the possibility of things becoming more serious. Some things I require in a potential date/mate are culinary adventurousness, higher education, and respect.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I edit science journalism at a non-profit. In my free time, I write poetry. I've been published a few times, and I'm always excited for opportunities to collaborate and make art.

My current short term goals are to get more of my work published and to learn ASL. I'm starting an ASL class in September. I'd also like to learn more about programming. Code Academy is great.

I don't have any long term plans for my life right now, which is a bit unusual for me. I was really driven during my undergrad and grad school. This is the first time I haven't had a five year plan. I like editing and I think I'd like to continue doing editing work in the long term.

Mostly, I am working on being happy.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Cooking, trying new things (especially if they're food things), crossword puzzles, board games, and bar trivia. I can also speak in iambic pentameter without having to count syllables on my fingers.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My glasses. I try to pick interesting frames.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Crow, The World's Wife, My Index of Slightly Horrifying Knowledge, Crush, Now You're the Enemy, For Love of Common Words, Under Milk Wood, Lolita, Pale Fire, Y: The Last Man, and American Gods.

Movies: Harold and Maude, Ninotchka, Waltz With Bashir, Annie Hall (but Woody Allen is a creep), Up!

Shows: I'm currently watching Utopia, a thriller. I really like British television. I'm also catching up on the latest season of Adventure Time.

Music: I only listen to the Mountain Goats. (Not really. I do like the Mountain Goats a lot, though)

Food: If it's a cheese, I will probably like it. I am decidedly omnivorous, although I am also interested in sustainable eating and ethical farming practices.

Also, this doesn't really fit into any of the aforementioned categories, but I love public radio. I want to have Carl Kasell's voice on my home answering machine.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I have learned that I can do without most things. I just won't necessarily be happy or comfortable. Instead, I'm going to list six things that make me feel good in no particular order:

1. Good ice cream
2. Super hero action movies
3. Finishing a good piece of writing
4. Being alone
5. Dogs
6. Exploring ancient ruins
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What an equitable, just society would actually look like. Writing projects. Why AP Style is the way it is.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
On an adventure. Or watching Netflix. One of those.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a queer, kinky feminist. If you want to know what I mean by any of that, feel free to ask.
