My self-summary
I love learning and applying my knowledge and understanding. Whatever your passion, I would be more than happy to hear about it if you'd care to share. As for myself, I find political behavior to be very interesting - so much so that I would like to make a career out of it. After I complete my studies, I'd like to work as a political analyst with the Department of State. I am also interested in domestic and international law.

For those who care to know, Myers-Briggs says I'm an INTJ. You can make of that what you will; I don't put much stock in it. I believe that my most dominant personality trait is that I am level-headed.

I have albinism, which prevents me from producing melanin and causes visual impairment, thus the white hair and glasses. Photophobia also follows, so I'm not a huge fan of bright, sunny days or, dare I say, long walks on the beach. On the other hand, I do very much enjoy the outdoors when the weather is right. As such, autumn is by far my favorite time of year.
What I’m doing with my life
I am finishing up a degree in political science with concentrations in statistics and Sino-American relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I plan to go on to law school and graduate school afterward to pursue a J.D. and Ph.D. We'll see where things go from there.

In the meantime, I would like to become more fluent in Mandarin, learn to play piano, go storm chasing, attend an opera and a ballet, and go sing some karaoke.

Outside of class I work as a housing counselor, lead a debate team, volunteer as a conversation partner with the Intensive English Institute, participate in Bible studies, serve as parliamentarian for our student senate, and serve as the legislative coordinator for an intercollegiate debate organization.

In my free time I like to play chess, hike, camp, watch movies, dine, go to the gym, and occasionally play video games.
I’m really good at
Well, in cover letters I like to tout my creative problem-solving and strategic thinking skills and my ability to assume alternate perspectives.

More generally, if I can find the motivation and patience, I feel that there is little I can't do reasonably well.
The first things people usually notice about me
Setting aside the most obvious, I think that I come across as very serious at first. But I'm not.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I'm not a huge reader, and rarely have interest after combing through mountains of textbook pages and journal articles. But I do enjoy a fun war or espionage story or a deep philosophical work every now and then. Examples include:
- Anything Tom Clancy (RIP)
- Crime and Punishment
- Atlas Shrugged
- Catch 22

Movies: I love a variety of movies. I particularly enjoy a good dystopian drama or thriller. They usually make some solid social or political commentary while presenting it in a unique depiction of the world. Of course, I'm not opposed to a good action movie. Examples include:
- The Fifth Element
- Pulp Fiction
- The Matrix
- Gladiator

Shows: I am not very picky with shows, but half-hour comedies, legal and political dramas and dramedies, and heavier, darker-themed shows are of greatest interest. Examples include:
- Modern Family
- Breaking Bad
- Boss
- Boston Legal

Music: Classical music, and modern music that employs classical stylings, are my favorites. I enjoy the more complex patterns they follow compared with today's popular music. That said, I am also a fan of alternative and classic rock. Examples include:
- Vanessa Mae
- Mozart
- Debussy
- Billy Joel

The six things I could never do without
In no particular order...
1: The Internet
2: Other People
3: Sunblock
4: Hygiene Products
5: Meat
6: Decadence
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My studies, job prospects, and future in general; what I should be doing as opposed to what I am actually doing at any given moment; how to justify my next shoe purchase...

Oh, and you. ;)
On a typical Friday night I am
Some combination of: Doing homework, studying, sleeping, playing chess, drinking scotch or cognac and smoking a cigar, watching movies, or online shopping.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Back in the day, I once accidentally wore my mother's jeans to school thinking they were my own. It was somewhat embarrassing when people pointed out the sparkly girlish designs on the butt pockets.
