I have a daughter who is 9. With the schedule that I have with her mother, I don't go more than a few days without seeing her and I try to have adventures planned for almost every "kid-weekend" to make my time with her memorable and fun. I have a very peaceful co-parenting situation. My daughters mother and I were friends for many years before we ever dated.. and we have managed to just revert back to that mindset and focus on being good parents. We are both successful in our careers and own our own homes. "Drama free" is an understatement.
Through high school and my first(and only) year of college I was a very dedicated cyclist, road & mtb. 6k-8k miles/year. I worked at a bike shop, trained with a local racing club, and raced mountain bikes locally. I LIVED bicycles. A bad motorcycle accident in 2000 left me with a knee injury that makes it painful to pedal. I have been filling that void for the past 5-6years with hiking and snowshoeing. My friends and I maintain a website with pictures from our hikes and trips etc.
I grew up riding dirtbikes. I had my first bike at 4yrs old. My father raced dirtbikes when I was very young and managed several motorcycle shops. I still ride motorcycles. I own an on/offroad bike that I enjoy going on adventures with. My father and I are planning on doing some overnight touring with tents this summer. (He is retired and just went out and bought a bike identical to mine.. he is currently stocking up on all the touring gear) I am NOT a Harley Davidson guy(sorry biker chicks).
I spent my twenties trying various jobs searching for the perfect fit, and sometimes just plain having fun. I was a Bartender on a river boat and acted as first mate. I was a mechanic at a Ford dealership. I worked as a Millwright/Metal fabricator at Logan airport upgrading the baggage conveyors and new scanning equipment post 9/11. As a truck driver I've hauled millions of pounds of recyclable paper to mills all over MA CT NH VT NY ME NJ. Currently I am in specialized hauling of oversized materials. I haul roof trusses. Sometimes over 80ft long & 14ft wide with escort vehicles.. sometimes state police escorts. Its exciting and offers a lot of freedom.
I like the feeling of accomplishment one gets by working with their hands and creating or ~doing~.
