A desire to see great architecture has taken me to places where
Hezbollah is very active, the Shining Path is just over the hill,
and the streetlights are all kicked out. With my black sketch book
I've been mistaken for a pious Muslim in a mosque, a Mason, or,
very uncomfortably, for a spy (since it was a Syrian soldier with a
gun doing the questioning). I've been offered wives in Lebanon,
asked to arrange marriages in Turkey, and gotten into discussion on
just war in Guatemalan hill towns.
I was born and raised in New York City, and have seen it change tremendously, from almost a combat zone to a playground. I love that you can now have your choice of the Farmer's market, Whole Foods, or the ancient Polish cheese store. I'm told that I have a dry humour that some people think is German or British; generally I'm a fan of the absurd, and consider myself blessed by its abundance. I'm happy to have a broad circle of very different friends.
I finished building a house in June. It took me two years of long weekends, but it looks pretty good. I love what I do professionally, and really enjoy seeing great design, whether it's a building, rug, or painting.
I'd like to date someone smarter than I am, with her own set of interests, hopefully including at least some of the arts. I'd hope that rather than get angry about something gone wrong, she bursts out laughing.
