My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
i'm an intellectual (english professor) and a musician. i leave it to you to decide which is more pretentious.

when i'm not teaching, i spend most of my time working on the two books i have coming out next year. the first is a book on german idealism, psychoanalysis, and american romanticism; the second is an edited collection on philosopher slavoj žižek (youtube him) and literary theory. when i'm not doing either of those things, i write and play music for the band misconstruity. we're recording a new album in the near future--hopefully before the album format goes extinct. (has it already??) we do mini east coast tours once in a while.

what else? i like watching and talking about good films and tv shows (ok, maybe some trashy ones too); debating politics; making people laugh (stand-up comedian in either a previous or next life); sushi; technology; masquerading as a philosopher rather than a literary critic.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
pretending that i'm not anxious or awkward in anxious and/or awkward social situations--that is, all social situations.

two or three times (in my sordid past, of course) i changed the price tags on books that i couldn't afford. i've also been known to cut the tags off of my mattresses. i'm a loner dottie, a rebel.

your profile doesn't include the phrase "i work hard to play hard" or lead with a paragraph about how much you love to travel, camp, hike, mountainbike, spelunk, white-water raft, etc.

you like guys who don't yell or launch projectiles at their television when watching sporting events; guys who think that "guys-nights-out" are lame; guys who believe that gender is a social construct; etc., etc.
