with respect to the former, i'm currently a visiting professor of american studies at st. john fisher college. i received my ph.d. in english (with a focus on nineteenth-century american literature) and critical theory from the university of rochester in the fall of 2012. i'm also working on two books: the first one on the politics of classic american literature (a revised version of my dissertation), the second a collection of essays on slovenian psychoanalyst, philosopher, and cultural theorist slavoj žižek. other intellectual pursuits of mine include writing about and arguing over politics and film.
with respect to the latter, in my free time i like to play and write music (usually on guitar, but on rare occasions on piano as well). once in a while i'll get an itch to perform some original material in public; sometimes i act on that itch. my brother and i are currently working on new material for a third misconstruity album (an old band of ours which disbanded in 2004). we're planning on recording it in the spring of '13 and releasing it in the fall of the same year. at least that's what we keep on telling ourselves.
i'm a bit of a tech geek.
arguably my greatest joy is making people laugh. if i wasn't so busy professing and playing music, i'd like to try my hand at stand-up comedy. perhaps in another life.
