I am Inteligent, Unusual, and Caring.

My Self-Summary

This is a 'Work in Progress'. Its a hard job describing yourself, trying to be honest with yourself and the reader yet not 'underselling' a bloke who's more than halfway decent (acording to various female commentators - unfortunately attached, distant or otherwise unsuitable).

Conventional until you get to know me - mind so open it can scare the more obviously 'unconventional'. The genuine article - what you see is what you get, but assume nothing and look and think. Serious with wide interests. Dry and intelectual sense of humour. A Geek who understands that strange Big Blue Room outside the door.

I get on best with those younger than myself, I was 'born to early' by a decade or two. But I'm not a 'party animal' but neither am I a killjoy. Neither do I pretend to be what I'm not.

I'm also better at getting on with women than men - my 'best friend' is a woman. But I'm still atrocious at 'making a move' and reading situations - part fear and part a lack of social skill in that area.

None of the usual history or responsabilities, a very open mind and who thinks and does differently. To say more would reveal my 'Secret Identity'.

Photo to follow later - I don't photograph well and come out even more dorky looking than in real life.

On line since 1996 - the year September never ended.

What I’m doing with my life

Working and recovering from a move of office. Recovering from a period of illness. Learning new stuff and trying to get more sleep. Waiting for the Morgage to pay off in a few months so I can begin to clear my massive debts... Making potentially life changing moves and planning to get back into the voulentray work I did regularly until a few years ago.

I’m really good at

Thinking.
Problem solving.
Procrastinating.
Misspelling things.

The first things people usually notice about me

YOU tell me... I don't do mind reading :)

Probably, when it's on show, my smile.

Generally I'm the unconventional one that looks conventional. Looking unconventional doesn't suit me, or my job, and it's to conventional for me, if you follow...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I generally don't do movies, but the three Lord of the Rings films, Master and Commander and the Matrix probably cover what I enjoy.

I don't have a TV - I gave up watching it over a decade ago. I will watch Grand Prix and various spaceflight launches and spacewalks online though. The only other thing I miss is Time Team.

Books: Well written Historical and Historical Crime books, which is a problem since I was spoiled by exposure to Patrick O'Brien who redefined 'well written'. William Gibson and good SF&F. I hardly need to mention Mr Pratchets tomes. Historical non-fiction.

Music: A wide range of genre, of the 9000+ tracks I have on my PC the last 10 played and not skipped were by: Eels, Pakito, Depeche Mode, Green Day, Primal Scream, from the Master & Commander Soundtrack, Marco P, Everything but the Girl, The Jam and Republica.

Food: I'm not a 'foodie' but I do like it to be fresh and well made.

The six things I could never do without

My Net Connection
My Computers
My Glasses
My Boat
Books
Oxygen

I spend a lot of time thinking about

History, Space Travel, Warfare, the way the world works, the Human Condition, how little time there is think all that should be thought...
Oh - and the background to all this is sex and how good looking that woman over there is, I am a single bloke after all.

On a typical Friday night I am

Back home online checking on my EMail and the many fora I belong to.

Which is a shame - not that long ago it would be 'travelling up to a weekend of voulenteer work' until some issues with the behaviour of a couple of other voulnteers stopped that for a while.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a 'Recovering Dork' and 'Irrecoverable Geek'- as if that isn't obvious from the rest of my profile.

You should message me if

You want to meet an intelligent guy who is a mix of old and new, experienced and inexperienced and whose only conventions are based on thought (and is therefore a complete perv) but doesn't flaunt that (and can't spell :) ). You are genuine and appreciate that in other people.
