My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
This entry used to have only two words: bookworm and bookmaker. While apt, I figured this needed some elucidation. After years in the academic world, where I spent the vast majority of my time looking at ancient and dead languages, I felt that the Ivory Tower wasn't for me, and I found myself in the wild and wooly world of book production. I now focus on digital production and design, but yeah, I was with print for a very long time. My passion above all things is the written word, and I read like a fiend, by the way, so it made perfect sense for me to try my hand at making the things.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I read like mad. I also try to enjoy everything that comes my way, and I strive to find the absurdity in life; luckily, it abounds! I also adore illustrating using both standard media and the computer. I have yet to mix the two. Lastly, I'm trying my hand at the piano, which I haven't touched in many, many years.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
A great deal of nerdy things. I'm also not half-bad at drawing and writing, but I have very little published in the world at large (no, I don't produce my own stuff - well, there was that one time, but that was a collaborative effort!).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, I shave my head. So there's that. I also wear glasses and dress in all black (I'm a recovering goth - it's one of my few holdouts, plus black is so easy to deal with when I'm getting dressed in the morning), though I do wear coloured ties - on occasion. Also, if you find me in a pub, I'm the one with the above description clutching a Guinness.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

You must be joking. There are far too many to list. Still, as some examples are required, I'll do my best.

Burroughs, Richard Adams, Haruki Murakami, China Miéville, Philipp Blom, Vladimir Nabokov, David Peace, Susanna Clarke, Sylvia Plath, Stephen Fry, Jasper Fforde, Christa Wolfe, Jorge Luis Borges, Flann O'Brien, Northrop Frye, Timothy Findley, Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, Stephen King, Clive Barker, Umberto Eco, Seamus Heaney, TS Eliot, JRR Tolkien, Ted Hughes, James Joyce.

Movies: 2001, Labyrinth, Wall-E, V for Vendetta, The Descent, 12 Monkeys, A Clockwork Orange, Snatch, Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, American History X, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Inception, The Social Network, Mulholland Drive, Eastern Promises, Alien, Inglourious Basterds, Watchmen, Withnail and I.

TV: Doctor Who, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Rome, Battlestar Galactica, The Muppets, Dexter, Black Adder, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Life on Mars (the original British version), some of Lost (some of it is amazing, but I can't claim I love the entire series), some of Oz (ditto), The Royle Family.

Food: Indian, Japanese, British (yeah, yeah, I know - sorry, love fish and chips), and I almost never say no to a well-made hamburger. I will eat almost anything. Except capers.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My books, computer, pens, library card, PlayStation (it does everything! I'm not even a big gamer), and cheese.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Books, language, linguistics, physics, current events, comics, films, and history. Oh, and art: I often have a number of ink-based projects on the go. I realize this is also a list that includes reading habits and hobbies, but they're all intertwined. I'd like to think that people like to think about the things they consume or express.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Reading or at the pub. Always reading, though. While I prefer print books, I also dig reading some larger works on my iPad. I might also be drawing something using nibs and ink.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once swore at the artist of Watchmen, Dave Gibbons. In all fairness, he deserved it, and he laughed.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You know the answers to these questions:

What is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?
Who really shot first in the cantina?
What is the average speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Who is the Kwisatz Haderach?

(Ok, you don't have to know the answers, but it's good nerdy fun)

What is really important, however, is that you know how to use an apostrophe. I'm really appalled by the horrendous spelling and violations of English grammar on this site.

Also, if you have used "LOL" in your profile (except to deride it), we're probably not a good fit.
