I am describing, myself, and in three boxes.

My Self-Summary

I'm much better at direct questions than summarization questions. After all, someone's life is much more complicated than a single summary is able to describe, and I'm a lover of tangents.

So let's start there. Tangents. People who tell stories, whether true or fictional, usually always have my attention. People who spin off their stories in several different directions, tangent built upon tangent, aren't going to lose it.

Labels and categories for people annoy me. At some point the label always breaks down and no longer applies.

Whimsy, imagination, fun, spontaneity, scooter rides, wind, trees, laughter.

What I’m doing with my life

At the moment I'm living in Jeju, which is a gorgeous island off the south coast of South Korea, teaching English to kids. A lot of the time I love it especially when I have to jump around and over-dramatize everything just so the little ones get it. My older students (or to be more accurate, the ones who're at a higher lever) are fun too, because we get to talk about current world issues, and it surprises me how often they know more about a subject than I do.

Where the next few years will take me, I'm not sure, and that's how I like it. I love traveling and living overseas, so I'm sure that'll be part of my life, whether I continue to teach English, or if I find another job that allows me to travel around.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

As I read, my interests change. A footnote in one book will send me reading in a different direction. A current subject I'm a bit obsessed with is evolution. Making my way through "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins.
Author crushes include: Aimee Bender, Haruki Murakami, Franz Kafka, Richard Yates, Marilynne Robinson, and Miranda July
Books/Stories I'm not over: "The People of Paper" Salvador Plascencia, "Wuthering Heights" Emily Bronte, "Too Loud A Solitude" Bohumil Hrabel, "The Gown From Mother's Stomach" Blake Butler

Instead of movies I'm going to do tv shows, seeing as how I'm much more addicted to them: The Office (US), Firefly, Psych, South Park, Doctor Who, Monk, Torchwood

Food: Korea has taught me to love kimchi! Any kind of galbi really. A nice steak. Mushrooms in a variety of settings. Granny smith apples. Strawberries. Raspberries. Peanut butter. Hazelnut chocolate. Popcorn

Music: What I listen to really does depend on my mood, or what I'm doing at that moment. I can't just sit and listen to music; I have to be doing other things at the same time.
Dancing/Cleaning/Getting ready to go out on a Friday/Saturday night: Generally it's upbeat/pop/dance music: The Sounds, The Ark, Mika, Daft Punk, Lily Allen, Scissor Sisters
Working out/Walking Places: The above list applies with these additions: Beck, Gnarles Barkley, Patti Smith, Cage, Tor
Writing: Beck, Bob Dylan, Meg Hutchinson, Aimee Mann, The Velvet Underground, Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor, Martha Wainwright, Peter Bjorn and John, Iron and Wine

The six things I could never do without

Necessities for living: my glasses/contacts, food, air, water, sunlight, a job

Necessities for happiness: friends, exploration, stories, alone time, mountains, my computer

On a typical Friday night I am

Finishing work late, before either running home to watch a movie, or going out to local bars to have fun

You should message me if

You have something more interesting to say than "you're hot/sexy/nice-looking." My looks do not make up a conversation, and I adore people who can hold conversations, not those who compliment me because they think it'll make me like them.

You should not message me if you're halfway across the world, and even remotely interesting. I can't leave Korea for the next 10 months, and I doubt you could leave where you are either.
