I am intelligent, quirky, and witty.

My Self-Summary

I'm a resident SaSider and I've never lived in a better place, and I've lived in lots of places. I like to travel. I take religion and spirituality seriously. I'm Orthodox Christian, which isn't listed in the denominations section. I also like to go out for a few beers and watch the Pens. I'm laid back and pretty social, though I can be shy when I first meet someone new or get into new situations.

I went to Pitt, and still go to Pitt, or rather go to Pitt again, this time for a degree in Education. So you can guess that I am a die hard Pitt Panthers fans. My dad's a Penn State fan, so there's some family intrigue there. I'm ecologically-minded, and I think we need to do our part to save the environment. I drive a hybrid and enjoy recycling. I bike as much as I can, more for transportation than exercise, I'm sad to admit.

I love to cook. I guess I'm a bit of a foodie, but not a food snob. I like ethnic, homemade food better than fancy restaurant food. I enjoy a whole-foods approach to cooking, too.

If you want to know more, read on! Or you can email me and ask.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, I am working on a PhD degree at Pitt. I sing. I play music. I bike. I study theology in my spare time. Otherwise, I'm just living, enjoying Pittsburgh.

I’m really good at

Thinking, writing, reading. I'm really good at cooking. So I probably should have put that first, I guess. I'm super good at editing and proofreading stuff, so please let me know if you spot an error.

The first things people usually notice about me

Sideburns, lately. Some people think I'm someone else quite a bit. Though sometimes they think it's me, which is a surprise, especially when I don't know them.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like sci-fi, fantasy, "literature," non-fiction, and journal articles. Like I enjoy Tolkien, Asimov, Chabon, King, Rowling, and the classics, as well as the Journal of the American Dialect Society and the Chronicle of Higher Education.

I like movies but I don't have any favorites. The only films I can watch over and over again are Braveheart, Michael Collins, and Twilight (WTF?).

I listen to all kinds of music, but not electronica or hip hop/rap. Some of my favorite artists are The Polkaholics, Weezer, The Zambonies, Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds, and Bruce Springsteen. I love roots music and folk music.

I thoroughly enjoy food; all kinds; even vegetarian. High up on the list are Slavic foods, Greek/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern, Meat of all kinds, and hot chicken wings. Lately I've had a penchant for bagonaneggs. Good stuff.

The six things I could never do without

God and His Church
Food
Water (I'm a fish)
Beer/booze
Books
Internet

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Education, specifically the application of education in the real world; stuff like HIV/AIDS education in poor countries. I think about my future a bit these days, but I'm not worried too much about it.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with friends, grabbing a beer, watching a game or strolling around the South Side. It's also nice to just stay home and watch a movie.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I enjoy spending copious amounts of time alone. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm in danger of becoming a hermit. Well, maybe not THAT alone. But I spent the entire summer at the beach and didn't really interact socially with anyone. Got a lot of thinking done, though, which is important.

You should message me if

You want to meet someone who is interesting, funny, smart. You're afraid of polka, but would like to find someone who can help you appreciate it. You like a man who can cook.

Oh, it helps if you think there is more to this world than empirical data can provide; that there is a metaphysical element. Also, it helps if you have a sense that there just might be such a thing as objective reality. That's kind of gone away recently, but I'm a fan of it.
