I am creative, sarcastic, and genuine.

My Self-Summary

Let's see...I love anything outside; hiking, camping, kayaking, biking, climbing and/or falling out of trees.

I love animals (all kinds, no exceptions) and cannot pass a puppy without giving him a belly rub.

I'm a music nut, mainly jazz, bluegrass, socially conscious hip hop, reggae, old soul and funk, some indie rock. I also read voraciously, usually 2 to 3 books at a time, and can spend hours in a book store or library.

Oh, I also hula hoop...a lot. I can do tricks -- it is awesome and only mildly embarrassing to my friends and family.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm the behavior manager at an animal shelter. Basically, I train dogs and oversee enrichment programs for all the animals in the shelter's care. I work with lots of volunteers and absolutely no budget so I've gotten quite skilled at creating entertaining toys out of recycled items. I adore my job, though it can be emotionally taxing, and don't foresee a change in career any time soon.

I’m really good at

making fun of myself, not getting eaten by the aggressive dogs I rehabilitate, cooking, hula hooping, falling down for no apparent reason, making costumes, finding amazing and ultimately useless items at thrift stores, debating with complete strangers.

The first things people usually notice about me

I don't think there is a way to answer this question without sounding incredibly cheesy.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Slaughterhouse Five (really anything Vonnegut), Dave Eggers, David Sedaris, Patricia McConnell, dog training books in general, Jhumpa Lahiri, Orwell, Joan Didion, and many more.

In terms of music; Max Roach, Art Blakey, Mingus, Monk, Charlie Parker, Oscar Pettiford, Eric Dolphy, Otis Redding, James Brown, Greensky Bluegrass, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Vassar Clements, John Hartford, Hot Buttered Rum, Almost Acoustic Band, Railroad Earth, Michael Franti, David Grisman, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, this list could get insanely long but I'm sure you get the general idea.

I am an extremely adventurous eater, so how about the foods I don't like: pizza, fast food, olives (I secretly think olives are aliens and I'm kind of scared of them). I'm game for just about anything else!

The six things I could never do without

music
dogs
hoop
laughter
trails
sister

I spend a lot of time thinking about

buying a house...local politics...pet overpopulation...solutions to said pet overpopulation problem...recipes that do not include bacon but should...balancing my desire to grow more of my own food with my amazing ability to kill every plant that has crossed my path...my next hike...Oregon...

On a typical Friday night I am

On the porch with a few friends, listening to music and likely consuming a few beers.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I already mentioned my irrational fear of olives, what more do you want?

You should message me if

you would rather be outside than on the computer.
