I am cynical, optimistic, and ardent.

My Self-Summary

Someone once described me as "harmlessly demented," and I consider it to be one of the nicest compliments I've ever received. That probably tells you everything you really need to know about me.

I'm Hermione Granger, except that I have a cynical sense of humor and really don't give a fuck. I'm Davan MacIntire, only a lot more compassionate, and considerably more random/spontaneous. I'm Amelie Poulain, only less awesome and slightly less antisocial. You have to speak a specific breed of dork for that description to make all that much sense, but then, the same can often be said of me.

I'm also agnostic, bisexual, and polyamorous and thus everyone hates on me for being unable to make up my mind, except for those that agree with me. They just give me props for how well I've made it up.

I'm dating a couple of people right now...my boyfriend that I've been with for the past three and a half years, and two other more casual relationships. It's working out wonderfully so far. I'd be happy to meet up with anyone...I could use more friends, and we could see if it goes anywhere from there. :)

What I’m doing with my life

Well, you see, the thing about that is...I don't know, I really don't. I finally graduated college this spring with an essentially useless (but entertaining) major, and now I'm kind of looking around in puzzlement. I do a lot of tutoring to make my rent, and I'm very passionate about education in general, and how they're ruining our children's lives specifically, so I'll probably go into something with that....but NOT as a classroom teacher.

For now, I'll just keep puttering along.

I’m really good at

Tripping over my own feet (literally and figuratively), being amused, paying attention to other people, writing, reading, eating, cooking (or at least, I think so), dancing around like a fool, listening, hanging out with kids because they are awesome, laughing at almost everything, being hypnotized.

The first things people usually notice about me

It depends...if they're in any kind of theater, the fact that I laugh loudly and often. Seriously...I've had at least 3 people come up to me after a show and say "Ohh...you were that person weren't you?" It's amusing, yet embarrassing.

If it's before noon, you'd probably notice I'm not particularly awake. If there's any sort of organized physical activity going on, you'd probably notice that I'm horrible at it, but having more fun than most of you anyhow. ;P

I have hair the verges on the absurdly long, so if I've let it out of its braid to play, people seem to notice that.

Honestly, I think most times people don't really notice me. I cultivate that to a certain extent, and resent it the rest of the way home.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books- Anything well-written EVER. Authors- Tolkein, Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett, F. Scot Fitzgerald, Mercedes Lackey, Neil Gaiman, Sarah Douglass, Orson Scot Card, Kurt Vonnegut, Robin Hobb, Louisa May Alcott, C. S. Lewis, the Dalai Lama, Rumi, Nikos Kazantzakis, Heinlein, Barbara Kingsolver, etc, etc, etc Also, my new favorite book in the whole world is Shell Shaker by Leanne Howe.

Movies- Finding Neverland, Amelie, Chocolat, High Fidelity, Holiday, Bringing up Baby, Galaxy Quest, Monty Python and the Meaning of Life, The Life of Brian (Wewease...BWIAN!), Matilda, Willow, Tron, Sense and Sensibility, NOT the LOTR Trilogy (I spared you an extensive rant here...lemmee know and I'll be happy to tell you all about my burning, seething hatred for Peter Jackson), My Fair Lady, Victor/Victoria, The Sound of Music :P, Blazing Saddles, any Marx Brothers movie

On a related, but added note, Tv shows/series- Gilmore Girls, Simpsons, Futurama, Monty Python, Are You Being Served, Ab Fab (basically I like british humour. That's right, Humour.), Cowboy Bebop, FLCL (!!!), Brave and the Bold, X-Men, Kodoma no Omocha, Kim Possible (yes, go right ahead and mock me. I know I do. I still like the show.)

Webcomics-A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversible, 9th Elsewhere, Dominic Deegan, Oracle for Hire, Okay Pants, El Goonish Shive, Bunny, Gossamer Commons, Queen of Wands, Venus Envy, Sinfest, Count Your Sheep, Something Positive, Questionable Content, Pheonix Requiem

Online serial fiction: Tales of MU, The Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom

Music- Mostly I tend to make friends with people who have strong musical taste and then get hooked on their stuff...although I have recently discovered that I don't actually like CLASSICAL music, except for some Beethoven, cause I mean, who doesn't love Ludwig? What I actually do like most of is the Baroque stuff. So then, skipping forward several hundred years...Linda Rondstat, Postal Service, Indigo Girls, Loreena McKennit, Dresden Dolls, Daft Punk, Cibo Matto, Gorrillaz, Carly Simon, Alberta Hunter, Tina Turner, Tracy Chapman, Bjork, Sting, Bobby McFerran (sp), Foo Fighters, Dromedary, Stronger than Tea, The Muffs and I'll probably get hooked on anything anyone plays a lot of...mostly I tell people that I have no taste in music...not that I have BAD taste, but that really...I have none. Heh.

Food- The kind that I can eat. YES!!! Alaskan King Crab legs, artichokes, mocha, artichoke heart + capers pizza, asparagus, linguinni, clam sauce, clam chowder, shrimp, mmmshrimp, tea, catnip tea, wine, drunken noodles, curry, oatmeal, CINNAMON!!, anything spicy, perscription-strength chocolate cookies, hamburgers, filet mignon, rasperries, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apples, pineapple, oranges, fruit smoothies (I like fruit, didja notice?), chocolate covered cherries, salmon, anything with lots of garlic, most things that I cook

The six things I could never do without

1. Books 2. Food 3. People to talk to 4. A place to run away to where I don't have to talk to people 5. Sleep 6. Sex

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Friends, relationships, random connections in things from whatever class I'm taking/heard on the radio/saw a minute ago, what the hell I'm doing (both general and specifically. The answer tends to range from "hell if I know" to "something dumb?"), sex, shiny things, life as a duck, the things I've read and why I read them, oh yes, and can't forget the monkeys, society, sex, killing us all, the fact that humanity is probably going to beat me to it, puzzles, YOUR FACE, and sex.

I don't spend a lot of time thinking about:

God, the creation of life, life after death or the lack thereof, the big questions, you know, what it's REALLY ALL ABOUT, aliens, etc.

As far as I can tell, nobody actually knows anything about any of that, there's no way for anyone actually TO find anything out for sure, and even if they DID know, it would have absolutely no effect on the way I live my life anyway.

I can see why it can fascinate people, and I'm happy and intrigued to hear everybody's theories...but for me...

I'm gonna shrug, grin, say "42" and get on with my life.

On a typical Friday night I am

If one of my friends wants to hang out and watch a movie, or roam around town and laugh at people, or go get dinner, we go do that. I loooooooooove to go dancing, although that's more of a Saturday night thing. No cover at Blur! (Edit: Blur is gone now?? OH Noes WTF! If you know of any good dancing place as a replacement, please let me know.) **Warning** I like to dance. This should not imply I'm any good at it whatsoever, especially when someone is trying to dance with me.

Otherwise I stay home, and I read, or I hang out and watch people watch things, or if I'm running short of sleep I say screw this and go have a nap. And THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Privacy is variable for me.... Some strangers I meet learn more about my sex life at a glance than most of my family and friends will ever, ever know.

I don't have a picture up because of the unholy glee I get whenever I recognize someone by their picture on here, but they have NO IDEA I KNOW. I'm not giving that up just for more hits. :) I will send pictures if we've talked for a while and you want to make sure I'm not secretly a penguin or somesuch.

I also get credit for being quicker on the uptake than I actually am because I tend to react more to tone than content.

You should message me if

You have nothing to say, but feel like saying it anyway. I've come to the conclusion that that's the real acid test for any start-up friendship...anyone can have a conversation about something, after all.

You are not a racist, a rapist, or willfully ignorant (this perhaps especially includes ignorant of the general conventions of written communication).

In general, I'm happy to talk to anyone. Mmmmtalking. If you've ever used and enjoyed the phrase "delicious irony" or giggle at "Sex me up, Scotty!" (Hehe...) there's a pretty good chance we'll both enjoy the conversation. I think that last is just me, but it's a recurring random thought, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I want to live somewhere with long springs and falls, real winters, lots of culture, good food, job opportunities, open minded people, and a good poly/kink scene. If this sounds like your town, please message me even if you think you don't like me personally. :)
