My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
These days I'm a woman on a mission to finish a book I'm writing. I also do a fair amount of volunteer work in the area of international development. I'm a sucker for a sense of humor and kindness, and I try to make the most of life. If you like to read and you like to laugh, and the idea of dating someone who writes obsessively is strangely (or not so strangely) compelling to you, then bingo!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I used to be a newspaper reporter and currently work in higher ed administration. I have master's degrees in creative writing and public administration. There's this Winston Churchill quote I like: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." I think this sums me up as of late.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Keeping myself entertained. Making chili. Playing tennis with greater enthusiasm than skill -- want to play?!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm going to guess friendly and easy-going, with a dash of goofy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: All the books! Lately I read a lot of literary memoirs. Favorites include The Glass Castle, Lit, Wild, Just Kids, An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination, The Answer to the Riddle is Me, and With or Without You. Other old favorites: The Sun Also Rises and Wuthering Heights, and poetry by Lynda Hull, Adrienne Rich, T.S. Eliot, etc.

Movies: Almost Famous, All the President's Men, Shopgirl. I enjoy watching movies, of course, but don't watch them often and definitely don't consider myself a movie buff. Sorry I'm not sorry.

Shows: Mad Men, Girls, Homeland, Masters of Sex, Orphan Black, Parks and Recreation, The Bridge, The Daily Show. I'm a bit obsessive about my favorite TV shows.

Music: Ryan Adams, Aimee Mann, The National, The War on Drugs, The Shins, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Rolling Stones, Feist, A.A. Bondy, Bob Dylan.

Food: No seafood. Nothing with scales or an exoskeleton. No, thank you. Pass. Most other options will do.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Ambition, bookstores, Microsoft Word, airplanes, coffee/tea and my beloveds.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Books I'm reading and what I'm writing. Travel plans, actual and prospective. Online dating -- friend or nemesis?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It varies.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I automatically disqualify anyone whose screen name ends in "4U."

Also, I am allergic to your cat.
