I am cranky, queer, and fun.
My Self-Summary
I'm excited to meet new people, so I've decided to check out this
new-fangled series of invisible wires and small tubes known as the
World Wide Web. I live in Northwest DC by way of upstate New York,
and I miss the winter but I love living here anyway. I like plants,
biking, people who I can trust not to judge me too harshly, and
lurking around at the library. I hate cell phones, "green"
consumerism, and jam bands.
I'm interested in friends, dates, making out, events, and learning
about all kinds of fun to be had in DC. I don't want to spend lots
of time online. I checked off "gay" for lack of a better option,
but really i'm open to queers of any gender.
What I’m doing with my life
Working on becoming an herbalist without distancing myself too much
from the kinds of health care that are accessible to most people.
Examining the ways i've been taught to exist in the world and
trying to unlearn fucked up ideas about race and gender.
Prioritizing relationships with close friends and family (and
blurring the lines between the two, i hope). Staying in bed late
reading graphic novels! Drawing plants.
I’m really good at
Acting silly
Identifying plants
Fixing bikes
Feeling awkward
Appropriate comma placement
Saving money for later
The first things people usually notice about me
That I am unfriendly. But really it's just a misinterpretation of
shyness.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books....Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, The Man Who Fell in Love
with the Moon by Tom Spanbauer, Gleason and Cronquist's Manual of
Vascular Plants of the Northeast (and other such volumes of plant
geekery), Class Matters by Bell Hooks, Laurie Marks' Elemental
Logic series (the first two, at least), The Ledgend of Drizzt
series by R. A. Salvatore, Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie,
The Sandman comics.
Movies....??? I like horror movies, I guess. Last year I saw the
documentary Chocolate City, which I thought was great.
Music....Jawbreaker, Queen (except those awful songs that tend to
be played at sporting events), Husker Du, Stevie Wonder, L7, Martha
Scanlan, Sinead O'Connor, Alica Keys, Neko Case. Best of all, any
music played by friends in person.
Food: vegetables! I love them all, except zuchinni, which is just
OK. Also, pinto beans, popcorn, eggs, and catsup/ketchup/whatever.
The six things I could never do without
Friends who give a shit, the public library, clean tap water (NOT
bottled water), my bike, crossword puzzles, and swearing. Really
only the friends and water are necessities.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why health care is so fucked up
When I am going to have a good space for growing food
How to stick to my principles in a daily series of confusing
situations
How to talk constructively about politics with my nice liberal
family
Condos, what they mean, and how they got to be everywhere, and
where the fuck people who grew up here are going to live as rent in
DC becomes unaffordable
Lots and lots of boring stuff, like how it's time for a haircut and
"oops, i forgot to buy oatmeal again," and "I wonder if I'll ever
care enough to clean my room...."
On a typical Friday night I am
Goofing around, dancing, or moping. Maybe riding bikes or playing
scrabble or digging around in piles of trash.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
yeah, right. I'll admit anything in person, though.
You should message me if
You want new friends or low-pressure dates.
