I'm a laid-back guy with a penchant for random jokes, bombing and
blatant plagiarism be damned. I'm a child at heart, and big into
the geek arts, but do my best to keep it in check. If I know you
don't care about my favorite sitcom, my opinion on the latest issue
of Green Lantern or how the Red Sox need another starter to get the
rotation back up to snuff, we'll talk about something else. I'm a
music aficionado (I'd say elitist, but I like a lot of bad music,
too,) a big movie buff, and I know so much about pop culture that
it's probably what's prevented me from being a scientist or
computer programmer. But when it comes down to it, I just love
hanging out with friends and wasting hours away just babbling on
What I’m doing with my life
Right now, I'm working at the local comic shop, loving what I do,
and once a week, I host a pub quiz in Des Moines. But the dream
situation is me either taking a hack at being a writer/author, or
scrounging up enough money to move somewhere where I could get work
as a voice actor. Stupid money-based economy...
I’m really good at
Well, like I said, I have a lot of pointless knowledge. I'm
typically the first to get called when a friend's trying to place
the name of an actor or song. I used to help make my team quite
unpopular at the weekly pub quiz, but now I'm the one running the
show. I've done broadcasting in the past, so I have a pretty
well-refined voice for things like that. And I can crack up my
friends at the bar when I unleash Blue Steel. Oh, yeah, that
reminds me - I'm a career designated driver. I don't drink, but
have no beef when it comes to others drinking in my presence, so
I'm always popular when we hit the bars. Also, the Robot, bitching
about the Red Sox
, Spoonerisms, Picross and forgetting things.
The first things people usually notice about me
Either my height or my black-rimmed glasses. I've been told I look
like Drew Carey now, and I'm still trying to determine whether
that's a compliment or not...
Oh, and I have a gap tooth, so that too. If only ladies went wild
for guys who look vaguely like David Letterman...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Harry Potter series, anything by Arthur C. Clarke, Sarah
Vowell, "Now I Can Die In Peace" by Bill Simmons. Also a lot of
comics and manga - my favorite comic series right now is Rob
Guillory and John Layman's Chew, a great mix of humor and
weirdness. And I also really dig Saga, Sex Criminals, Hawkeye and
Movies: Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, 2001, High Fidelity, Grosse
Pointe Blank, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Blues Brothers, The
Comedians of Comedy, The Baxter, the James Bond Films, Hero,
Shaolin Soccer, Stranger Than Fiction, Scott Pilgrim, The Fantastic
Music: open to just about anything - my only turnoffs are
mainstream hip-hop and current country. Specifically, Ben Folds,
older Weezer, De La Soul, Interpol, Soul Coughing, Jimmy Eat World,
The Apples In Stereo, The Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, Beck, Cake,
The Hives, Hot Hot Heat, Mates of State, The New Pornographers, Hot
Chip, Passion Pit and loads more. Lately, Hot Chip's "Don't Deny
Your Heart" has kinda been my spirit animal.
Food: I'm a farm kid, so I'm often strictly meat and potatoes, but
I've learned to get at least a little bit adventurous. Comfort
foods include fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, corn, just about
any casserole my mom cooked up as a kid, enchiladas, lasagna,
peanut butter cookies, toffee bars and bananas. And as far as drink
goes, my blood is a good 30% Cherry Coke.
The six things I could never do without
My iPod, a steady supply of Cherry Coke, my lucky quilt made from
my grandpa's work overalls, my friends' companionship, my family's
love and support, and enough sensibility to know this sounds a
touch too treacly, but screw it, it's fun.
On a typical Friday night I am
With my friends, typically either at someone's place watching a
DVD, or at one of the local bars, recanting tales of blatant
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Uh.. I'm a sucker for girls in glasses? Or should I go with the
fact that I have a faint scar under my right eye from faceplanting
on a coffee table when I was 3? Crap, how much time do I have left?
You should message me if
...if you want a good laugh, or you're looking for some good music
to listen to.
