My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Life is short. Art is long.

Friends would say that I am fun and funny and loved by children and animals, great and small. Friends would also say that I love to listen to and to play music, paint, converse, and have new experiences. Friends would also say that I treat others with respect and that systems of social distinction don't intimidate me- that I can hang out with Presidents or the homeless guy on the street, and enjoy myself and be myself just the same.

Former lovers would say that I cuddle, discuss, and like to be all sweet and romantic like- that I like to cook meals without recipes, and at times go to "high culture" places while keeping "low culture" topics on the table (albeit quietly and under my breath). They would also say that I love to make out.

My current and former students would say that I am a teacher and a philosopher who values their contributions, clarity and charity in interpreting the world and interacting with others, and Times New Roman 12 point font. They would also say my bullshit detector is in excellent working order and that I use it often. They would say I have high standards but that I am very fair and love ideas, if it is possible to love ideas...

I would say I listen to NPR and the BBC while I sleep, as I like tomorrow's news today. I eat my vegetables and want to find someone who does the same. I think a lot about being greener and leaving a lighter footprint, and have perfected my cleaning mix of tea tree oil, baking soda, and vinegar for cleaning tubs. My other strategy to leave a lighter foot print is levitation. However, that is proceeding more slowly than I anticipated.

I am looking for someone who likes to try new things, cares about the world, and others. I like to hold hands in public and you should too. I am good with strangers and can talk to anyone. I listen and then speak, but sometimes I get excited and speak rather quickly. I like movies but don't care for sports or video games. (I might go to a baseball game or a soccer match once and a while, but that would be for the people watching and the overpriced hot dogs).

I love Indian food, salad, steak, and I want to learn to speak more languages. I also like to take classes on diverse subjects. I think about how I can be a better person a lot, but truth be told, it is a work in progress.I am considerate, fun, smart, and kind.

I moved back to NYC from Toronto, where I was working to build a school. Prior to moving back here, I lived in NYC, Chicago, California, Boston, and Minnesota. Now I am back in New York. Yep. Back.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
A lot- I just moved to Newark to start a school. It isn't as far from the city as it might seem. I moved from Toronto where I was building a school and now I am searching for beauty and meaning, friendship and trust. I am a new day rising, as my old friends, and Husker Du used to say...

I am also learning how to play the banjo.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Thinking and public speaking. Honor and commitment, being great with relatives and kids, light carpentry/lawn work, home repair. I am good at being a brother too, I think at least...

I am also good at making the bed, steaming vegetables, bbq'ing, giving massages, no messages, well, both of those really.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My dimples. Then maybe my jawline, then it is my pressed shirts.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I am going to have to come back and edit this one- last three weeks: a 70's book of the month club selection that has been pretty good, though I can't show the cover on the train- the book cover looks like a porno. But, the book is really good. I am re-re-re-reading a lot of Rousseau. I like reading books that I have read before to see my margin notes. Wow, did I really think that?

I also like to read the New Yorker and love to read the NYT. Right now I am reading a great book called Blindness. I also like trashy magazines. E.g., OK!, Hello! or other Brit celeb zines with exclamation marks.

Some of my favorite artists and bands include:
First Aid Kit
Neko Case
Sigur Ros
Guided by Voices
Tom Waits
Bob Dylan
The Flaming Lips
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
TV on the Radio
Hank Williams
Husker Du
Willie Nelson
Buck Owens
Johnny Cash
Archers of Loaf
Foo Fighters
Explosions in the Sky
Built to Spill
Uncle Tupelo
DJ Shadow
DJ Spooky
Handsome Boy Modeling School
Arcade Fire
Bright Eyes
Son Volt
(The more pedal steel guitar the better)

I used to play the washboard and howl in a honkytonk band in NYC called, Drew Walker and His Lonesome Playboys. I also played drums in some other bands. I am thinking about getting back into music a bit more, hence the banjo. Building the new school in Newark has taken a lot of time and I would like to get a better work/life balance.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and selected Wes Anderson movies, save for Bottle Rocket. I thought the Cohen brother's version of True Grit was great.
Dead Man
Star Wars IV, V, VI
The Manchurian Candidate (the original, thank you)
Buckaroo Bonzai Across the Fifth Dimension
White Christmas

Better off Ted
Cowboy Bebop
Law and Order/SVU
Arrested Development
Modern Family
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Meaningful experiences
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
global justice and citizenship, education, and a lot of other stuff. Like I said above, I am also thinking a lot about myself, not in a narcissistic way, but about where I should be and what I should be doing. How I can do things better, faster, stronger, etc. I also am thinking about how I can be a better partner to someone who thinks about that as well.

As good ol' Kant used to say: There is nothing as good as a good will. I can say this: That is me: I am full of good will.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I normally take Friday nights off, cook a nice dinner, have a glass of wine or a pint, listen to some music..

It is okay I went to an Ivy League school but still have student loans..(I'm making progress, don't worry)
That in the future I want a relationship that would lead to marriage and a family
That you like to snuggle and make out, and have sexy time.
That you think it is good that my sister is one of my best friends
That you don't have a cat, never want a cat, and have no interest in cats- but maybe a dog in the future
That you like to go see art and talk about it
You think camping and going out to gala events are equally interesting options for things to do
That you like the fact that you could be with a Ph.D. (and are not sketched out by that, or freaked out or what not) who also has been in rock bands and honkytonk bands; and be completely comfortable with the possibility of being pulled into a dance position from which neither of us know where to go next.
That you think it was funny that I worked at a saltwater aquarium store called, "Something Fishy."
