My self-summary
Gentleman painter. Making art for fun and profit.

Polite and charming with a deep, abiding love for difficult art, arty movies, and uncomfortable music. I'll never shy away from an intense discussion. I visit museums (I get in free) and galleries, relax over drinks and good food, and revel in my vices.

Born and raised in Detroit.
Brooklyn <==> Hamtramck
What I’m doing with my life
Painting. Traveling. Forgetting to eat lunch but remembering to grab ice cream. Building a black hole from scratch.

My cats were recently featured in a six part telenovela about the New York art world.

I took French so I could paint in Tarnac and visit the D'Orsay some day. Like a cliché, I fell for my french teacher.

Vacationing in Havana in December. Retiring in Sicily.
I’m really good at
Traveling lite. Cooking. (My eggplant parmesan is as good as my grandmother's). Making / drinking good coffee, making out, and arguing philosophy with non-professionals.
The first things people usually notice about me
shoes, beard, curls (if the air is dry).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books (recent): The Accellerationist Reader, Decline and Fall, The Empathy Exams, At Swim-Two-Birds, The Painting of Modern Life, How to Cook a Wolf, the Ethical Slut.

Movies: RHPS, Sleeper, Under the Skin, Breaking the Waves

Tv: Time Team, Frazier, The Wire and The Thick of It

Music: I used to be in bands (indie / mathrock) (Lately): Ke$ha, John Cale, Wolf Eyes. Converge and Braid for all time.

Food: Sushi and Burgers +
I spend a lot of time thinking about
painting. creative sex. QED. How to continue living the life I dreamt I'd have as a kid for as long as possible. Tony, wondering where he could be, who he is with, what is he thinking, is he thinking of me, and whether he'll ever return someday.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working in the studio, as narrated by Dan Mintz.

If I'm going out, I'm usually with art-friends, going to galleries, looking for somewhere to drink and talk shop, somewhere to dance, maybe.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm divorced. My ex and I have been best friends since forever, and we're both pretty cool with it. Cool? Cool.

A celebrity couple you might know were given a painting of mine as a wedding present.
You should message me if
My professional world is fascinating, but small, so message me if you want to:
*tell me about your play / research / dissertation or want to show me what you're building / listening to / seeing / putting together / taking apart.
*dance like you don't give a fuck.
*grab a coffee, or a cocktail, or both, though preferably not at the same time.
*make out in public, or secretly

or, you're Jane Levy (a boy can dream)

Now what you wanna do?
And who you wanna do it with?
Me? That’s cute. okay!
